need help choosing between the 6870's and the GTX 470's

The GTX470 needs a decent PSU to run it even at stock speeds. Overclocked GTX470 cards need quite a bit more power too. The HD6950 2GB with launch drivers is faster in many games and has similar power consumption to an HD5870 which is much lower than a GTX470 at stock clockspeeds.

The extra RAM on the HD6950 2GB does help it at higher resolutions too.

Get the Gigabyte GTX470 SoC - runs cooler and quieter and uses less power clock for clock than a reference GTX470 and already has a decent non-reference cooler. Sure it uses a bit of wattage when overclocked but when you do overclock the 470 comes alive. 6950 offers good competition to the 470 SoC the 6870 does not.

AMD fanboy much? in your world it's basically buy any card(s) so long as it's not Nvidia then?

To the OP as Marine-RX179 has mentioned most of the games you listed prefer Nvidia cards, something which our friend Cleeecooo seems to be overlooking ;)

Not this crap again. Hypocrisy much? Thinking PhysX is crap doesn't make anyone a fanboy at all, but to go on and then say "Buy nVidia as the games work better on it" is just a joke. I know that you try to act impartial, but seriously at least put some effort in to seeming like you're impartial. PhysX is crap, and it'd be crap regardless of if it was an nVidia or AMD thing in its current incarnation.

Seriously WTF Kyle? is there really any need for ridiculous posts like this ^^ ?

I didn't even mention PhsyX in my original post

Oh come on, don't play dumb. You called him an AMD fanboy for saying PhysX is crap, how can you not understand that? I don't really understand the relation between PhysX being crap and liking AMD too much. What you quoted didn't even remotely say any card is okay except for nVidia ones, so why you had to mention that I don't know.

Running a mildly overclocked (700) - stock voltage- Asus 470 here with this PSU - no problems at all.
Other parts - P5Q-E motherboard
Q9650 @ 4ghz
4 gb Ram (2 x 2gb)
Xonar Sound Card
1 x 640 WD Blue + 2 x 250 gb Hitachi HD's
Terratec Twin Tuner TV card
LG Blueray/HDDvd player/DVD writer drive
LG Dvd play/writer drive

Excellent, stable PSU :)

This is probably the best choice. 6950s simply aren't worth their asking price, I reckon they need to be around £180 really, and 6870s at £180 aren't worth their asking price either, they should realistically be sub £150.

6850's should be 100?

Pants post

im really confused now, gigabyte gtx 470 SOC or xfx 5870 ????

which are the ups and downs for both cards ???
