Just had a phone call from the missus saying she's having trouble getting fuel in my car, turns out she was trying to fill it with DIESAL!!!

She says she put about £2 worth in, and that there was a quarter tank in there already.

If she fills it up with *petrol* is there a fair chance that the diesal will dilute enough to be able to run.

How the hell did she fit the nozzle into the filler pipe? Women really do surprise me at times.

Your best betwould be to fill the tank to the brim with petrol, it should dilute it enough to not cause too much bother. Brim the tank and then after a few miles, brim it again, rinse and repeat. If there's only £2 in it, it should be fine

Lord knows!!! just had a call from her, she's back on the road and it's running okay. The RAC advised her to brim the tank; the car my get a bit smokey but it should be okay on such a small dilute.

I guess being an oil the diesel should just lube my injectors and valves , right? ;)

women

:p ;)

edit: somehow someone put diesel in our petrol ride on mower last year, just emptied the tank as best we could n brimmed it with petrol, seems fine now :)

Petrol in a modern diesel is a different matter

Thats putting it lightly. Had to deal with someone at work who filled his 4 week old 3 series with unleaded and drove it down the road before it broke down and he realised what he did. Nice sized bill from BMW for that. Try explaining to someone they are liable for the 4 figure bill when they wont accept that they are in the wrong. His arguement being that it should be covered under warranty

To be fair, it was probably covered by his insurance.

not true, my lass managed to stick £5 in petrol in my TDCi, she brimmed it with diesel after i went mad and it's been fine since.

Some mechanic told my girlfriend that if she ever runs a car on LPG to put a few litres Diesel in the petrol tank every few weeks

I was like    then said "Dont EVER do that, Be more carefull to who you take advice from"

Wouldn't surprise me if they refused tbh. They have clauses about negligence, such as your car being stolen when you've left the keys in it, and putting the wrong fuel in would certainly qualify.

Oh dear, well she hopefully will know better in future and there should be no harm done. For the record I know as many men that have done that as women :p On a slightly different note - men thinking women are dumb at forecourts: I once had some idiot in his nice new big BMW beeping his horn at me for not moving forward to use the front pump so he could use the back one. Problem was only the back pumps had diesel the front ones were petrol only. So remember guys not all women drivers are useless (only a certain type :p ) :)

be careful. deisel is MUCH thicker than petrol and will have sunk RIGHT to the bottom of the tank!!
i know this as a friend with a diesel had the fuel light come on, he put 10quid of petrol in and obviously 5miles later it cut out and wouldnt start. We put a few jerry cans of deisel in and all was ok, as the deisel sank to the bottom of the tank and mixed wel with the petrol.
hope this helps :)
