I've installed all of the components but the graphics card is not working. Everything turns on except the graphics card. There's no screen either.

Specs are : Intel i7 860
Asus Maximus III Formula
Geil Ultra 4GB RAM
GTX 285

Need quick replies!!!

Re-seat it first, make sure it's securely in the slot and that you have connected all the power cables to it (should be either 1 or 2)

To clarify, is this a new build or a build that was working befere the installation of a new card?

If it is a new build then, reset the cmos, check the Ram is seated and in the correct slots (check the manual for this).

As for the latter, do as mentioned by other uses, reseat the card, check the power connectors to the card are connected.

The fact the card fan doesn't spin up isn't really telling me anything. With certain cards I've owned they only spin up after the booting process has started.

This is my first new build. I will re-seat the graphics card and how do you check if the ram is working. There is no beeps or nothing, however, the computer itself powers up but no screen. Anyone got any tutorials on how to fit an Nvidia graphics card ?

EDIT- how do I reset the cmos?

It will be the jumper marked in the mobo manual. Also make sure your ram is in the correct slots

It will tell you in the motherboard manual how to reset the CMOS, but it'll be a jumper or switch on the motherboard you need to use, make sure it's powered off when you do, it'll give you insstructions in the manual anyway.

If this is a new build, then you've not had it working before I take it ?

Have you connected the 12v cpu power feed to the motherboard ? ...it'll be an 8 pin connector on that Asus, that connects to a socket near the cpu socket.

Check the memory too, make sure it's properly seated and in the correct slots for running dual channel with 2 sticks.

It sounds like the problem is unlikely anything to do with the graphics card, the fact you are getting no picture is due to the system not booting.

The first thing I would check as previously mentioned is the Ram is in the right slots, if there are two modules of ram they should be in the same colour slots, in the case of your board, the red ones.

It does boot up though and I think I have seated the ram correctly. I will try to post pics up and if this does not continue to work I think I need someone over to take a look. This is really infuriating.

If you are getting no video how can you tell it is booting up correctly? Are you getting the single bleep at POST?

Have you tried a different video card?

You seriously need to post pics of your rig as your descriptions haven't been very clear, hopefully by seeing your system it may be easier to spot what's wrong.
Or failing that, take it down to a PC shop and let them have a look

I haven't got a different video card. There are no beeps. What I meant was it does power up but no screen.

Is the speaker wire connected to the motherboard? If it is, switch it around the other way and see if you get any bleeps. Have you reset the CMOS with the button/jumper?

Also, reseat all of the power connectors to the motherboard, the 24pin ATX and 8 Pin 12v connector.

What PSU do you have? It might not be up to the job.
