Im going with Be* broadband and they have offered me static or Dynamic ip address... what is pro n cons?

Id go with Static but Im worried that utorrent downloads might be easier to track and less safe?

If its just for home/personal use it dosnt really matter, dynamic is probably a bit more anonymous.

However, be's dynamic ip's dont seem to be very dynamic, lol, only changing now and again.

If you use Rapidshare a lot on the free service you could bypass the wait times with a dynamic IP. Other than that, i don't really see the need for it.

Don't worry about the uTorrent tracking you thing. They only look for mega uploaders and stuff.

It doesn't make any difference to how trackable you are - it's equally easy for the ISP to tie you to a dynamic or static IP address. Dynamic IPs are no more secure either.

If the IP changes frequently it could be helpful if you get IP banned from gameservers etc.

If you're that worried, there's always Usenet.

So a static IP is always better to get ?
As someone who loathes DHCP and all things dynamic, I'd say so. :D

It's useful if you host games as you only have to tell your friends to "write it down!" once.

DHCP in the right environment is a charm, but for internet connections i would have to say static.

ok so nothing to worry about then... be told me they are turning it on on friday and should expect 20-22mb :o

I used Be on my last house and was told Id get 15-16meg and it was what I got in the end so very hopefull :)

True, but the OP won't appreciate it when he tries to set up port forwarding for his horse pr0n. :p

DHCP is still useful when you're working with port forwards - just set up a reservation with the device's MAC and you get the best of both worlds.
