Need help, want more noise!

Well I want more noise from my Dolomite. Already got a nice stainless steel exhaust on it, but it doesn't quite make enough noise for me. I don't sit on motorway often (1/2 times a month for only 30 mins) so I want something to sound good when going along country road. :D

Not really wanting to spend loads, so not really interested in a whole new exhaust system. I was thinking about altering/removing the centre silencer...

Ideas/Opinions?

Losing the centre silencer will make it loud - but you might find that you'll lose a bit of the bottom/mid range torque. It'll help the higher rpms mind, and make it noiser. :)

Thought about working on induction noise instead?

Can't really do anything for induction noise. I have listened to it without any filter on and that wasn't much better. Plus then I have to change carb needles for the air intake, plus the stock air intake gets the most power.

I was maybe also thinking about a different centre silencer, one that silences less. That should keep back pressure enough?

Go to Powerflow, tell them you want a loud noise, they will pull a back box off the shelf to suit and you just choose a tail pipe.

Full systems are around £300 iirc.

Just going to post the same thing!

You can get other specialist exhaust companies where you can go in and actually choose the sound you want your car to make through a computer program, then just choose the tail pipe.

Bit more expensive than Phil's suggestion but worth it, my old rado owner had it done. Start the car up and its very loud indeed, quite while tootling around but put your foot down and it roars.

First thing that came into my mind was a Cherry bomber :p

Haha the guy who I bought the car of, that was the first thing he mentioned!

£300, hmm not wanting to spend that much to be honest. Just want a little more noise without having to get a whole new system if that is possible.

300 Quid, GOD DAMN, they were around 60 quid in my day.

Once again God i am old :(

Cheap option would be to strip out the baffles in the exhaust you have but obviously that would void the warranty and not pass its next MOT.
I would search about for a second hand rear pipe, there must be loads of them sitting in sheds not being used. At least then you can refit the standard when it comes to MOT time.

Good god it's a Dolly, you have no choice but to swap them for cherry bombs :D

Flog the stainless one and swap it all for some cheap mild steel stuff that doesn't matter when it gets smashed up once you've lowered the car, cough once you've lowered the car :D

LOL Jonny, not lowering me thinks!

I like my stainless system though. :D So seriously could I stick in a louder centre silencer?

Best option would probably be to take your car to powerflow and have them adapt your system to give the noise you want. Should get the same end result but without the cost of a full system.

I got my exhaust done for about £150 from a company round here, nice big backbox and tip and a nice big pipe going down the middle of that car to the box at the front. Makes a lovely sound and certainly turns heads :D

You neglected to mention the cam & twin Weber 45s that car also carries :p ;)

Large trumpets & filter socks will go some way to making induction roar much more prevelant but filter socks are totally useless, so you'd need some deep K&Ns to sit them in.

Green cotton & ITG make suitable base plates and filters (of course, you'll need two of each) to suit the HS6s, nothing between them really, just as long as you make sure they're kept clean and oiled :)
