Hi all
I just moved into a property where there was infinity previously but the cable had been cut and box removed. Bt wanted to charge me £140 to send an engineer to reconnect it, which I thought was a lot for a few wires shoo I bought a master socket off eBay and need to connect it up, but I can't find the correct instructions. It's a box that has both phone and broadband sockets and the cake is the normal six wires (blue, orange and green with white and white with each). Does anyone have one of these and is able to take photos to show the correct wiring please?
Thanks

Are openreach even going to let you do that? I would imagine you will still show up as not connected on their system, so will still need and engeneer down before they will let you use fibre?

Have you tried looking at different ISPs? Some might have better offers for connection?

Bt say there is still a line there and will activate it, but will charge for an openreach engineer as they believe it's an active line. The previous owner must have removed it when they cleared out. I'm in contract from my precious address so it's a home move, so when I ordered I just selected to diy. There is a grey BT box at the front of the house but the cable that comes in and should have the internal bt box on was cut; that's the one I'm trying to wire . It's one of these, has an a and b connection and then a 2,3 and 5 connection;

You just need to wire up the A & B at the back of the master socket to the incoming cable. Usually it's the orange and orange/white pair.

So basically, this is on the front of the house;

That white wire then runs through to a cupboard under the stairs, which I presume should have a Bt master socket, but is just this;

And then I bought one of these to connect to it, but I can't work out the correct wiring

All you need to know has already been posted.

So I connect the orange and white to the A and B on the back plate, but do I not need to do anything with the 2,3 and 5 connection on the front plate (the left plate on pic 3)? It looks like that is needed for the connector that goes to the home hub.

Do the blues not need to go through to those?

I do have a punch down tool but these have clips so you don't need them,i believe?

Hmmm, ok, so tried white with orange to A and orange with white to B but it doesn't seem to work, the home hub just flashes orange and occasionally purple, then back to orange (and I did reboot, etc)

I noticed there's actually two A and B connectors one on the rear and one on the front plate, presumably I just need to use the rear one (i tried connecting then to the front one but it didn't do anything)

Is the line definitely active? I suppose it's possible when BT originally installed it they didn't use the orange/orange white pair but unlikely.

You're right, I'm thinking of the quiet line test to see if there's any noise or hissing on the line (indicating a dodgy line).

The NTE5C is the latest version to be fitted. Wiring is tool less. :cool:
It will show as an existing line but if still connected to the exchange will test dis as previous occupant removed the socket. To save a possible visit charge, as you selected to self install, connect the socket and check for dial tone. Then take it from there.

Wiring is BL/W & W/BL for line on back of first part of socket. Extensions go in the connector on the front part of the first part of socket. Data extension kit go in the connector on the back of the front plate.
