Need help with my build...

Any luck mate?

Not to sure about the GB boards, but in my Bios there is a section with all the sata ports which list what drives are connected in each port. If you don`t find it in there, I think it will be safe to say the hdd is damaged. If that is the case, raise an issue with 5UB in Customer Service and explain the situation. Also mention the condition of your items upon delivery. The very least you want is for them to send you a replacement and have the courior pick up the faulty hdd. At least that way you wont have to wait to long, they should be able to get one to you tomorrow at the earliest. Any way, let us know how you get on.

Hey, no luck yet. I fell asleep for a few hours. I'm going to go down to the local electronics shop and buy a small HDD. It's an expense i could do without, but i need to know if it's the board, the drive or something else thats wrong and this will help me find o0ut.

On another note, i can't even say how gutted i am at this. :(

I got it working! It cost me another £59.99, which my partner is fuming about, but windows is now installing.

After trying everything i could think of, and every suggestion, i went down to the local electronics store.
They had very few drives to choose from, all OEM, all expensive.

The cheapest one i could get was a 500GB Seagate Barracuda, 7200RPM, not sure about the cache, at £59.99.

I was just desperate to get my system working so i bit the bullet and got it.

How do i go about returning the dead drive to OCUK?

Thanks, will do.

I've got a question about the GPU. It seems to require a pci-e cable with two 6 pin connectors.
All i have is 2 6+2 cables.

Will i be able to use the two cables together or will one 6+2 be enough?

Just use the 2x6+2 pin cables, the 2 pin will hang to one side. They are only for use on cards that require an 8 pin connector.

Ok so i've got it mostly up and running, i'm using it now to type this (hi from my new rig!),
but my gpu doesn't seem to be detected.

I've installed drivers from the mobo disc and from the gpu disc but no joy.

I remember someone said earlier that tahiti based cards had issues with gigabyte boards and might require a bios update.

How do i go about that safely?

I presume i'd use a usb drive to store the update but i also know i can screw up the system if i'm not careful.

I had a look on gigabyte's website for bios updates and there is only the one i have already and a beta version of the most recent.

Should i still go ahead with it even though it's a beta version and can someone kindly talk me through the process?

Look in your Bios, I am sure you can select Gpu as your main graphics output.

In regards to the Bios up date, download the latest one from the GB site, I personally never use Beta versions. Unzip the file to your USB drive and use the Qflash utility in the Bios. There is a guide in your mobo manual.

Like i told you earlier, you need to update the motherboards bios or the Tahiti will not work. It seems to be a particular problem with Gigabyte boards and your one especially. The beta bios should be fine. It worked for people on another forum i post on.

Update using the method Idleman has posted above.

Tried to update the bios multiple times now. It's said that the file size is wrong a few times and another time the only file that was on the usb drive was autoexec.bat.

I know i'm probably doing something wrong but i just don't know what.

Got the card running in the x4 slot for now.

Instead of enjoying my new rig i'm just stressed out.

Bios settings, Peripherals, this is where you select your graphics output.

& Init Display First
Specifes thefrstinitiationofthemonitordisplay fromtheinstalledPCIgraphics card,PCIExpressgraphics
card, or the onboard graphics.
Auto Lets BIOS automatically configure this setting. (Default)
IGFX Sets the onboard graphics as the first display.
PEG Sets the PCI Express graphics card on the PCIEX16 slot as the first display.
PCI Sets the graphics card on the PCI slot as the first display

Which Bios did you use? F19g(Beta) or F18 .
And was your USB drive in FAT fromat?

Sorry about the whinning in my last post. Was just really tired and p'd off.

I tried bios f18 and when that didn't work i tried the beta, both failed.
USB is FAT 16.

I am going to play some skyrim for a while to help me chill out then get back to sorting things out.

How big of a performance hit is there using the x4 slot instead of the x16 slot?

As for the dead HDD, am i best emailing or calling about it?

As I said in a previous post, drop 5UB a note via CS.

You can install the Bios update from your hdd, just select the drive as the destination instead of the USB drive.

Not sure on the % but I really would try and get the bios sorted, if that is what is stopping the card being detected in x16 slot.

I can understand your frustration, so a bit of a chill out and a clear head would be a wise decision. I really hope you get this sorted soon.
