OK i'm going to buy This AMD Phenom II X4 820 to upgrade an older system.
I was planning to put it into my older system a Dell Optiplex GX620 tower case.
I heard this was not possible? Can you guys clear things up for me? I wasn't planning to buy a case or a PSU thats why i was going to put it into this system...

Thanks

If you look in this table for the GX620, it will tell you that the MiniTower comes with a BTX size motherboard so you won't be able to upgrade to an ATX board I think.

Ah damn. What case and PSU would you recommend? I have 1 80gig SATA,1 400 Gig SATA, and a ATI Radeon HD 4xxx series card. Cant cost much :/

Ah damn... This isn't looking good for me then. I'm not 100% tech savvy so what would i need? I now need a case, PSU, and DVD Drive.

thats the basics.

still need an operating system, do you have one to use? if not, relace the above harddrive with this bundle - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-000-OP

the motherboard in the bundle has an onboard gpu to get you going/do basics. For more gaming power a graphics card is need to get the settings turned up/play newer games.

That case will work.

The winpower PSU is nasty, its a known fact that any psu claiming 450w that costs around £10 new is poor.

Ok thanks a lot, So all i need now is a DVD Drive yes? or can i use the one in that case with the motherboard im planning to buy?

Thats ok then, I meant the old ribbon IDE style wide connectors like your optical drive.

So the older ribbon cable i will need for...? Sorry i'm terrible at this. Also can i get any PSU to replace it?

You dont want any older ribbon cable, is your current dvd drive SATA or IDE?

the bequiet PSU above will be fine.

i dont know until you tell me.

As i said before the motherboard has no ide connectors so go from there.

you either need a new sata dvd drive or you dont.
