Hi All,

Got round to purchasing a 60GB SSD (Corsair Reactor).

Would like to install Win7 x64 Ultimate on it.

I am a bit concerned when I have read that people are seeing Drive degradation after only a few weeks!

Is there a guide on the Do's and Dont's. i.e. Putting Page File, Temp internet files etc. on a second mechanical drive to save write wearing.? How do you do that!

Many thanks

yes there are tons of them.

word of advice, set sata type to ACHI in the bios BEFORE installing windows 7 or you will get blue screens (which can be fixed) but easier this way. Then put the cd in, or usb, and install windows as normal.

once installed you can disable services defrag and drive indexing and superfetch.

Drive degradation only really occurs on drives without TRIM from what I have read. You can disable services like degrag and superfetch but tbh I'm not sure if it makes any difference.

Thanks for the replies.

I purchased Diskeeper 2010 (apparantly it takes careof SSD performance), so fingers crossed.

How do I move the Page File off the SSD drive? I read that this saves uneccessary writes to the drive and prelongs the life of the SSD in the long term.

Cheers

It's best to leave the pagefile on the SSD.

In looking at telemetry data from thousands of traces and focusing on pagefile reads and writes, we find that

* Pagefile.sys reads outnumber pagefile.sys writes by about 40 to 1,
* Pagefile.sys read sizes are typically quite small, with 67% less than or equal to 4 KB, and 88% less than 16 KB.
* Pagefile.sys writes are relatively large, with 62% greater than or equal to 128 KB and 45% being exactly 1 MB in size.

In fact, given typical pagefile reference patterns and the favorable performance characteristics SSDs have on those patterns, there are few files better than the pagefile to place on an SSD.

Update:

Installed Windows 7 on the SSD. WOW!

Followed a few Tweak guides for optimization, TRIM, Disabled Superfetch,Windows Search, etc...

The burning Question I keep asking myself is; How long will the drive last for with daily use? and How many times do I have to Secure Erase the SSD and start all over again?

SSD Guru's knowledge required please.;)

If the drive is "Trimmed", just leave it be and revel in the magnificence of it. :D

The only thing that'll annoy you at some point is the realisation that 60gb ain't enough. ;)
