Need inexpensive monitor

was going to get the aoc 31.5" but with the ghosting decided to go for the 27" Samsung 1440p, over double the price but I think in the long run it's worthwhile. 144hz. The AOC I think is a bit too big for a monitor. Also feedback regarding ghosting. 27" fits in perfectly about 1cm either side between monitor and speakers.

27" is bit small text at 1440, I guess could use scaling. It'll look better in games with the higher ppi.

personally 1080p vs 1440p is light night and day to me. i would choose 1440p over 1080 any day of the week. its the sweet spot personally. when i went to 4k i did not notice as much as a difference from as i did from 1080-1440. maybe grab a second hand 1440p with a decent refresh rate.
I'll look for one... But I'm not convinced I'll get a great deal what seems full of wanna be retailers these days... ☹

I will agree the monitor market is a bit weird at the moment. With some being much more expensive than 6 months ago. I just wish AMD and Nvidia went down the freesync route and it was the same standard as it would make life for the consumer much easier and monitor pricing a little better. But that argument has been discussed so many times.

Yeah gsynch is so expensive... May be I'll put up with my 20.5 1600by1200 for s bit longer... :(

I mean I'm stuck with the advice so far:
1080 us too small for anything over 22 inches
1440 is wasted on a screen below 27
The aoc 32 is to big to be a monitor: I need to sit back..
144 kHz 1080 would last a long time with the GTX 1080 with all graphics settings literally set to max.
1080 is a total waste of the GTX 1080s power...
But I still barely have £200 for a monitor after getting my system...
Basically there are no good choices until the 250 to 400 price range... that's terrible!

tbh your budget does not match your gpu it’s that simple really.so if your really stuck at that budget either save another £100 over a couple of months or something. Or get a high refresh 1080, knowing you will max it out but deep down knowing you should be seeing a much nicer image.

Keep an eye on MM for a second hand deal or B grade monitors on ocuk. I would just not rush this if it’s going to be your monitor for the next couple of years

yup with a 1080 you want 1440p.

Even with a 480 GPU which is slower than 1080 by a fair margin I'm getting 100fps+ in some games set to max at native on a 1440p screen.

Was going to buy the aoc 31.5" but I think 31.5" is too big, it's slightly pixelley than 27", not height adjustable, only 75hz.

So went for the 27" samsung 1440p hdr model, 144hz. More than twice the cost, but I think since I keep monitors for years it's worth it.

With it being height adjustable, it fits between the shelves in my ikea fredick without adjusting anything. Better stand than the 24" 1080p 144hz samsung, good vertical height over a 24" 1080p which I find pretty lacking, and with curved get better viewing angles at extreme angles being a bigger monitor, plus with 144hz I get leeway on games where it would be >75fps. PLus it has LFC so if I get low fps I won't get tearing.

It lacks DVI with the aoc which would have been good, as my ati 5450 should still output that, but over HDMI it doesn't so need a new gpu. Not the end of the world as new 1030 is about £35 minus a gift card I have.

Yeah I'm tempted to either pick up something in 24 inches 1080 (not 144) for a couple of years (the benq at £119), or just make do on my old 20.5 square monitor and save for something lush... but I'm only getting the system as it's been offered at a ridiculous rate, I mean I'm paying ~700 for a system with a i5 6600k, 3 250gb sdd drives, the 1080 (the extact card is on oc for ~550 ), 16gb 3200 memory, all built in a case runs cold and silent and overclocked to 4.5 ghz... it's a very very good deal (not here for a price compare). I only mention it because normally I couldn't even think about that kind of graphics card, which explains why thinking about 400 on the monitor is also tough for me!

:( I need to save more lmao...

I agree

Hits head against a wall trying to understand why anyone would buy a 1080p monitor these days
Over 10 years ago back in 2006 my dell 24" was even 1200p

I don't think I've seen a single one of them!

16:10 monitors are still available, and my last one I used a couple of days ago was one. In fact, I think for 24" 16:10 is better than 16:9 24", because the 16:9 version feels tiny vertically.

I'd had to go to 27" 16:9 to make it worthwhile, and you can see where 27" 16:9 is only a bit more vertically than 24" 16:10
