So i removed the crappy intel cooler to install the OCZ Gladiator Max which was very highly recommended by YoYoTech (main reason i bought it).

Anyway this cooler was an absolute nightmare to install. It was very fiddly and when i thought i managed to get it attached it just popped off again.
This process happened a fair few times untill i finally thought it was in properly.

It was good for a couple of months but just now my comp (check sig) wouldn't turn on. It would power up but i got a terrible beeping/ringing noise and a black screen.

I checked it out and found the cooler was loose and just fell out when i touched it to check its stability.

Should it have been this much of a problem??
Is it a rubbish cooler for my setup??
Could it just be a faulty part???

Anyways im sick of it and want to try a new one. Any recommendations?? My budget is about £60.

Please help, Thanks

Ditch the Intel® Push-Pins

Thermalright LGA775 Bolt-Thru-Kit £5.00

Thanks the Thermalright 120 black looks good.
Am i right in thinking it will come with the bolt-thru kit? And i would only need to buy a fan to fit onto it?

Also its out of stock here, is there a way of finding out when stock is due??

Yep the Thermalright ultra black comes with the bracket already supplied. Though you will have to buy your own fan/s, the black version has 2 sets of fan clips should you wish to use 2 fans in push/pull configuration.

If you have the space for the True, I'd also consider the Sunbeamtech (Tuniq) Core Contact Freezer. It's cheaper than the bigger competitors (TRUE etc) at £28, but performs roughly the same and comes with a 12cm fan, some tuniq mx-2 (well rated thermal paste, decent sized tube surprisingly), fan controller like the Tuniq Tower.

I got fed up of temps in my old case, so today I changed from my old case (1x22cm fan and 1x12cm fan) and a Zalman 9500 to an Antec 300 with several 12cm fans, and a Core Contact CPU Cooler and my load temps have dropped by *15 degrees*. I can do a quick heat test with 64bit linpack and it reaches 55-60 accross all 4 cores of my quad (the two hottest are at 58-60), whereas on my old machine when I ran linpack, the two hottest reached 74/75 degrees before the computer promptly bluescreened!

Its not the quietest CPU cooler, but its quieter than the Scythes fans Im using as they're aimed at airflow not peace...not Deltas though!

Push-pins are not the answer to mounting cpu coolers. The true will definitely not come loose, but is big and expensive

OCZ Gladiator MAX Heatsink Review

In both groups of tests the OCZ Gladiator Max heatsink performed very well, particularly for the low amount of noise generated. The difference between the Gladiator Max and the best heatsink was only about 4 degrees, and within that span there are only five heatsinks with similarly quiet operational characteristics. So there you have it, the OCZ Gladiator Max heatsink is a good lower noise cooler for both Intel and AMD platforms.

jonogodden, just buy the Thermalright LGA775 Bolt-Thru-Kit for £5.00 and get on with your life, it's a simple solution for a simple problem!

Wait, i was under the impression that the bolt thru kit would only work with thermalright coolers?

Could i use the bolt thru kit with my gladiator max?? I cant see where it would fit on it?

You remove the plastic push-pins from your OCZ heatsink, remove your mobo so you can fit the backplate and then just use the screws to attach the heatsink! :)

Heres a bunch of random heatsinks with their push-pins removed. . .
