Recently I've been trying to play BF4 with outdated hardware. Here's my current specs:

AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 @2.60GHz
GeForce 560Ti Hawk Edition
(I'm not certain on my mobo, only that it's an MSI AM3 ready board)
4.0GB RAM (3.25 GB USABLE)
32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium
2 x 250GB IDE (lol) Seagate Hdd's

Most of this is outdated tech purely because I've not paid a penny for the whole build since it was given to me by a clueless friend. Anyway it's obvious that I need a 64-bit copy of windows 7, then I need to upgrade my RAM to around 8GB. Of course I need to get rid of those awful Hdd's to a faster sata Hdd. What do you think about the processor though? It's decent but outdated by now I'm assuming? The only issue I have with this is possibly having to change the motherboard to an AM3+ socket, what do you think?
I think the graphics card will last me a couple of years. All in all there's a lot that needs changing but it would be worth it since I'll be using it for the many programs Adobe CS offers, while playing games alongside my work.

Hi and welcome to the forums :D

Decide on a budget first. Anything that can play games well will run anything from Adobe. It all depends on how much you have to spend.

Thanks for your response. I forgot to include in my post, but I'm prepared to spend anything around £150 in total. If I need to spend any higher then that's not a problem.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE120BW) £79.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £59.99
Total : £148.68 (includes shipping : £7.25).

Is where I'd spend the money; it'll make the most difference. Download the free 3 month Windows 8 trial giving you some time to save for the full version

Understood, seems like solid advice. Do you not think I need to upgrade my processor at all?

TBH if OP is trying to play bf4 and game performance is his aim in the upgrade, i don't see why more than half the cash is spent on an SSD.

What would be your total budget if you were to be prepared to upgrade the CPU?

I cant imagine the CPU cuts it for bf4 multiplayer. If bf4 is all you play, then a 6300+half decent am3+ mobo is where i would spend my extra money (as well as the RAM).

And, as already mentioned, use Windows 8.1 Evaluation. This will give you time to save for a 64bit OS. Sell your old parts to recoup some of the money and get a sata hdd. Next on your list is a Gpu upgrade if you feel your 560 is`nt cutting it any more. Ssd I would get after you have brought your sytem up to date.

He needs it for work too hence the SSD. With £150 he won't get huge improvements to both work and games. In all honesty he needs to up his budget.
