I bought a full rig from another supplier. 2 years ago this coming February
The GPU on that rig failed after 18months. still in the 2 year warranty. the card cost me £460 and was a reference 7970

The supplier has just rang me and said, they no longer stock the card as there is a fault with the card. so i have two options. They can either refund me £55
Or send me out a lesser card which is the 7950 referb

Is this normal practice? I feel robbed

Sorry for posting this here, You guys seem to know the ins and outs of this whole business and its the only place I thought I would get a straight answer.

I'm not sure but I would have thought they have to replace the card with one of the same value. Performance of the card doesn't come into it.

The £55 is a joke please don't accept that.

You paid premium for the warranty so expect a like for like replacement.

People should stop being screwed over by etailers trying to pull a fast one. Sure they'll give it a try but at the end of the day you paid for something that they guaranteed to work for 2 years.

try contacting xfx directly for rma replacement

I hear their rma service is poor but worth a try nevertheless, cut out the retailer completely

Just been on the phone to them. again they have said that is the market value for my card. And because they no longer stock it. They cant replace it. I dont understand all this I really dont, I honestly thought the warrenty was supposed to cover me. They have said they are going to contact the rep to see if they can get an equivalent card but he said dont hold your breath as they will just offer them the market value of the card.

I thought a warranty covers me for the cost I paid at the time. So if anything goes wrong in those two years I am entitled to the value of the card I paid. or a card of the same specs I bought.

I feel robbed beyond belief

I then mentioned the 280x as its the same spec and its the same spec as my card, rebanded 7970. He then went on to say its a completely different chipset and because its not a 7970 they cant offer me that. Yet they can offer me a 7950?

surely if your covered by warrenty you should be entitled to a direct replacement, even under sale of goods act youd be entitled to more than 55 pounds youve only had it 18 months, not acceptable.

better than I had with gigabyte :P

RMAed a 460gtx, there were 2 different versions of the card one with a 256bit memory bus and a lesser version.

They sent me the lesser version as an rma replacement and then tried to say the retailer must have scammed me lol.... (it was bought from ocuk)

I knew for a fact which card I had as I even have gpu-z screengaps showing it.

Eventually I got them to admit it was there fault and they swapped the card though for the proper version

Not sure where you stand with this, as I believe they are in their rights to do this. It sucks and I wouldn't be happy at all with this. It does seem like XFX are completely gone from my future purchases.

One of the reasons to avoid XFX :(

I do hope you sort out this mess. If I was the reseller, I would not want this going all over the internet or thier forums ;) Hint Hint.

Agree. I bought a xfx 7850 back in the day and got crap service from them. Never again. AVOID XFX LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Yeh dont worry, I'm a streamer on twitch and I'm part of a streaming group in the DayZ community, This will be getting passed along.

It comes in threes though, Thursday, sons trampoline wrecked in winds, Friday, scammed scam me, and today, cat has been missing for 4 days. right before xmas ;)

To be honest with the way XFX operate, I don't know why they are even allowed to do business in Europe...

They should not have bother if they can't provide the same level of support as in the US :o

I have read often on OCN.net that XFX are no better in the US now either. They continue this level of support, people will just stop buying their products and they will lose in the end.

Well, after speaking with the girlfriend and I should be buying a "EVGA 780 TI superclocked" soon. We are gonna forget about scam, get the refund and just start again. This time using OCuk. check it off as a bad experience and never use them again.
