Need some advise

yeh thats why i wouldnt feel bad stamping your feet and making a scene
they do this bcos 9 times out of 10 they get away with it
and that = profit

good job! :)

Proper result Mr Prime and you should be well chuffed :)
I wouldn't celebrating just yet, untill actually received and saw the card is new.

I am concern about the part they said "as it turns out this morning we have managed to obtain limited stock for the 3GB XFX Radeon HD 7970 GHz DD Edition"...fingerscross it's not a faulty return from another customer, and scam is playing magical hats...

I know. I'm not trying to scare you, but it's kinda strange that they would receive new stock on 7970 now given that the product is already EOL. Let's hope it is just the case of worrying over nothing.

Seriously, they really should have just done a direct replacement for you with a brand new 280x...I mean we all know 280x is a straight 7970 rebrand. The only thing that's different is may be the clock speed, since it is a rebrand of the GHz Edition of the 7970, and your 7970 is not the GHz Edition (if I'm not mistaken). It still doesn't change the fact hardware wise it is the exact same card, regardless of AMD rebranded it as a different model name, scam should replace your card with something of equivalent performance card, regardless of the name printed on the box, and trying to claim they won't do it on the ground of AMD's rebranding.

It's amazing how in their reply, they are just doing what they are suppose to do (in the first place) and making it out as they are "nice guy" giving your a "generous offer" to replace your 7970 with a 7970. They are making it sound like they are replacing your 7970 with a R9 290...lol

Heard quite a few of rumors and stories on "scam" doing warranty by offering ridiculous low amount of refund using the excuse of "depreciation" or offering b-grade card as replacement, while they file RMA with manufacturers customers' faulty cards to get new card replacements, which they put on the shelf to sell :o

They abuse the rma system for their own benefit it would seem...

Knew this was going to be a thread about the infamous Wesley. The guy spends more time on working out how to screw the customer rather than providing decent CS :p . I always enjoy a good session of googling his name and reading through the recent scores of people who he has screwed over, theres a mountain of google evidence of their shoddy practises. They tried to send me out a half squashed GTX 570 SC in '11, then it took a month of arguing to get a replacement. E-tailers really do need regulated more :D

As XFX were indeed going to process an RMA for you, you should have followed this up with the e-tailer in question, asking why they were trying to defraud you of a service you are rightfully entitled to. Also the fact that they never even bothered to contact XFX in the first place before making the £55 judgement call is quite lolworthy.

Secondly: I don't get why people are allowing them to keep the defective product after them failing to repair it. It isn't their property, it's still your graphics card which they have failed to repair. They really do love hoodwinking people don't they...

Well, It turns out they did send me a brand new card, The hydro cell DD edition. Sealed.

I'm still angry it took a forum post to get this sorted though. But at the end of the day I have something to sell to go towards a new CPU and board.

I keep seeing people saying they manage to ditch their used 7950 for crazy price up to £300 on auction site. Considering your 7950 is brand new and sealed, make sure you mention "CRYPTO-CURRENCY MINING" and you should be able to get good money for this ;)

Anyway, really glad that you got a new card instead of someone else's return.
