what is currently installed;
240gb hyperx 3k ssd
I7 4790k
Z97 gaming 5 MSI Mobo (red lights at the back of the mobo)
Avexir venom ram (16gb) 2100mhz ( this is just blinking green when its turned on)
GTX970

here are some pictures;

additional note:3rd pic the little digit thing flashes 00, 05, 15, 55. if that means anything. also there is a red light on my gpu(first time it has been taken out of the bag -__-). am i meant to use 2 seperate supplies for the GPU cause atm i have the sli bridge on in methinks.

all other information is currently on the build log. not very big, but thats everything else you will need to know.

Are you connecting your monitor to the DVI port on the graphics card, or the VGA port on the motherboard ?

Have you tried the VGA output on the motherboard ?

Also, have you tried the graphics card in a different slot, like the top one ?

I presume that memory is compatible with that mother board ?

If so, just put 1 stick of memory in, and see if that helps.

Try the CPU onboard graphics through motherboard, as suggested by Dex, but remove the GPU first, and give it a minute, sometimes takes a while for display to switch to onboard.

If that doesn't work out, build everything outside the case, and might as well reseat the CPU just to be sure.

I hope that you attached the CPU cooler block to the CPU (and applied paste) before you turned it on, right? As the CPU NEEDS a cooler to work properly. (i hope this is just the way you've took the pictures).

Otherwise you may have damaged the CPU.

no burning smell, and no i didn't connect the cooler atm.... It was turned on for about 1min, shouldn't of been enough time to damage the cpu i hope. also im going to use the stock thermal paste for the mean time.

I'd get a cooler on it asap chap, won't take it long to overheat. I don't think it would cause too much damage as I'm sure they have temperature safety thresholds built in... but don't quote me on that!

Could easily be causing the problem

I once killed an Athlon XP 1600+ by forgetting to put the cooler on.

I guess things have moved on a bit since then.

Never power it up without a cooler, they will heat up in split seconds without a cooler, even at post.

1. Put that godamn cpu cooler before you do anything and make sure you connect every wire for it!

2. move the gpu to the top 16x slot

3. Its hard to tell from that picture but I think you've put your RAM sticks in wrong. Looks like its in the 1st and 4th? If its not ignore me, otherwise you should read the manual for which slots to use for 2 sticks but i think for most boards its the 1st and 3rd slot.

Dear me...

It will probably be OK due to the thermal cutoff, but still. You've probably not connected the speaker up either as the thing should be beeping like crazy! By default the motherboards will give error codes when the CPU FAN is not connected.

Re: RAM, MSI boards usually take the first dual kit on the 2nd and 4th memory slots. This is to help with cooler clearance issues apparently. So switch the stick in the 1st slot to the 2nd. Then enter BIOS and set XMP, save and exit.
