I know the thread title sounds very dodgy but I assure you I have the best intentions! :D

I have booked my mum a holiday and I booked the flights using my air miles. However, to comply with US security procedures, the flight cannot be ticketed until I provide the passenger's secure flight data, i.e. passport number, expiry date and so on.

I want to keep it quiet as it will hopefully be a big surprise to her. There's one problem though. She has hidden her passport away somewhere and nobody can find it. I need the details from it without her knowing.

I've been trying to come up with a ploy to get the details without giving the game up, but I'm drawing blanks. She can be pretty switched on so it has to be discreet and far from obvious! Can anyone help me out?

Thanks :)

Can I borrow your passport as I think your mug is hilarious and I want to make a comedy birthday card or banner with it?

(I assume it's your mother's birthday, or near to it)

Mine is in a secure place, but my gf knows where it is.

I just find it hard to believe that she has told nobody where it is.

Say you read in the paper/site about a error in spelling in some passports where you might be required a new one or something along those lines, If you cant take the passport then take a photo of it for the details.

Ask her if hers has expired, because yours has just run out and you updated it at the same time?

This may not work if she's renewed it recently.

Are you going the immigration process with your missus?

If so make up a reason that its needed for one of the forms etc - pretty plausible :)

Ask her if its a chipped card, if shes unsure, tell her she should go check because they're putting the price up on new passports soon so its best to get in there and renew it sooner rather than later, then when she goes to find it, kind of follow her and try to get an idea of where it is. At least that way you'll be pointed in the right direction as to its whereabouts.
