With the new F1, BF3 and various other games on the horizon i'm itching for new hardware and a bit more beef.
Current components I'll be using in new rig;
Corsair HX750, CM690, HD6850 (subject to change). Corsair H50.

Which mobo's are on top at the moment for i5 2500k cpu's?
Would like 8gb of ram... Corsair?

Cheers :)

Thanks stulid.

Budget isn't really an option, within sensible limits of course. I won't be spending k's.

I paid that for my current Gigabyte motherboard. Nice. I was looking at the Asus mobo's, seem to have good OC'ing potential.

Never had much luck OC'ing my i5, think it's due to my memory incompatibility. Hopefully a new i5 2500k and compatible memory will give me a good clock.

Overclocking these chips is easy, just up the multiplier from 33X to say 45X (for 4.5GHz) and watch the system boot up:D

If that Gigabyte board behaves anything like the one I am using now, then it will automatically select the correct CPU voltage.

You will just need to get some new thermal compound for the H50 and do you have a socket1156/55 bracket for it?

Two 6850s will give you GTX580 performance as they scale so well. Only pick one up now though if you have to. I'd probably wait until they come down in price closer to the release dates of BF3 etc.

The Asrock is a great motherboard choice, and tbh, any Corsair, Kingston etc. RAM should be good enough.

Thanks guys, any other suggestions for a new board other than the Gigabyte?
Shall match it with compatible RAM when decided on a board.

I've not seen much luck with Crossfire cards, but that may just be me reading the bad threads. Thanks for the suggestion of a 2nd 6850, I was fancying a GTX570 so...

i5 2500k 3.30 Ghx Sandybridge CPU was the one I was looking at?

Get the Retail CPU, 3 year warranty and a box and stock heatsink for if you want to sell it on in the future.

Thanks stulid... looks like the Kingston is a strong contender.
I shall hopefully be overclocking the CPU, does dual channel put more strain on the CPU when overclocked compared to Tri-Channel RAM? Remember reading something somewhere...

Thanks. All I needed to know on that :)
What SSD do you recommend? M4 or Corsair Force Series 3? Not sure whats the better.... the sequential write speed of the M4 is significantly less than the Corsair.

Current system; i5 750 (stock), 4GB Gskill RAM, Kingston SSDNow+, gigabyte Ud3. (cant remember the model)

The M4 has a new 009 firmware that has given a big boost in performance. It also doesnt have anywhere near the same issues as OCZ SSD drives, they have released new firmware themselves, by why take the chance. A SSD is mostly about read speeds also.

I presume you will be selling your old gear now while its still worth some value.

You can always keep the RAM you have?

So would you see the M4 as a better alternative to the Corsair?

Yes I'll be selling the old kit when the new stuff arrives and is working.

4Gb is nice, I'm just future proofing with 8GB now rather than later. Understandable?
