Need temperature advice please

I can't remember what case it is. I'll have to check next time my at my mothers.
There's the stock cooler on the CPU, a fan at the back, a fan on the gfx card and a fan on the PSU.
As i said, it's free from dust.
I already tried taking the side off and replacing the paste. It's still above 80c.
I've tried underclocking it to 1.8ghz, still above 80c.
This really shouldn't be happening right?

stock cooler means you should not overclocke. The case should have good intake and out take fans.

What are you using to read the temps? dont believe speedfan if thats what your using.

Might be a little dried on thermal paste on the chip or heat sync, did ya giv it a good clean with some isopropyl alchohol?

@greenbrucelee: it's not overclocked, it's under locked. It's a 2.4ghz CPU and I'm running it at 1.8ghz (well at least thats what ive set it to in bios, although coretemp is telling me its running at 2.7 or something) the hope that it will not burn out.
It sits at about 35-40c when idle and rises to about 85c with a full load.
I'm using coretemp to read the temps.

@BluD: isopropyl alcohol? I'll give that a try. But could the condition of the paste really be the cause of such a drastic increase in temperature?

download other temp reading stuff like real temp, dont bother with speedfan since it hasn't been acurate since the core 2 duos came out/

In reality you should be looking on the low side of mid 70s to be 100% you are ok.

1)OK, if so try leaving case cover off so case fans are irrelevant, if overheat, try reapplying paste and reseat heatsink.

2)RealTemp seems accurate..check it.

3)Check voltages...it could be set too high.

I think that should cure your problem if nothing is faulty.

Please check to make sure the cooler is seated properly. Even with a stock Intel cooler and 3ghz your temps should not be that high.

Have you tried resetting the options in the bios?

If it is seated properly then I am at a loss as what to try next.
