Why are people not liking the lack of start menu on 8/8.1, how many people actually use the start menu on 7?
I am running 8.1, initially it gets a bit confusing but once set it to boot to the desktop and pin program's to the desktop or task bar, it's far better. Windows 8.1 is definitely a step in the right direction IMHO.
What do you use the start menu for that you can't do another way?
Why should I do it another way when the Start Menu has been fine for years?
keep with the os you already have or get used to the new OS or change the new OS to how you want it or jump over to a totally different OS..
it like if you buy your favourite food say Birds Eye Chicken Tikka Masala with Rice (just example) which you like for many years, then out of the blue they've changed something in it which maybe you and some other don't like, you would either try to get used to it or start buying a different brand. I know maybe I haven't put this in the right way but I hope you kinda understand what i'm trying to say.
Exactly, just like when Coca Cola changed their formula to "New Coke" back in 1985... oh, waitit like if you buy your favourite food say Birds Eye Chicken Tikka Masala with Rice (just example) which you like for many years, then out of the blue they've changed something in it which maybe you and some other don't like, you would either try to get used to it or start buying a different brand. I think we can all agree it is in Microsoft's best interests to keep customers using Windows, over say OS X or Linux.
same can be said about any brand.
but my point is if you don't a change that's been made then you have options what to do.
and why should the start menu stay the same?

but for some ideological reason are committed to forcing Metro everywhere, even in places where it makes absolutely no sense
well for example at Greggs I used to love the steak bakes for afew years but since about 7-8months they've changed something in them so now it doesn't taste as good with means I don't buy it anymoreThe point is they'd never do it, it's commercial suicide. Why would anyone in their right mind willingly throw away a good proportion of their customer base just for the sake of change?
^When it's on a desktop they shouldn't rely on a non-existant touchscreen interface to control the damn thing.
Hover the mouse in the corners? wtf is that
