the base spec macbook only comes with a combo drive, dvd and cdrw. you can get the superdrives and install it yourself, but that upgrade would invalidate the warranty. upgrading the hd and ram is fine under the apple warranty 

HDs to upgrade are just standard 2.5" SATA, for example:

Yes, they're 2.5" SATAs .They're Apple OEM as they're slot loading and fit inside the casing.
Can somebody confirm that the HDs are SATA please? I doubted myself.
