Neighbour asked to scrounge our wifi

Tell her that its fine, then ask her if you can run a hose pipe upstairs so you can share her water.

If I had an elderly woman living closeby or something then maybe, you know, someone who just wants to use facebook, google and do some shopping. Why not.

Or maybe someone who had family staying for a little while and wanted to offer them internet, ok, maybe. Under the "cup of sugar" type pretext, I'll "lend them" some internet.

Someone who is capable of paying their own damn bill and is looking to stream loads of films off netflix and god knows can **** off.

Maybe it is the modern equivalent of asking you if she can borrow some sugar and you totally missed the chance?? :D

But no. She could be doing anything with your bandwidth, and outright asking seems a bit cheeky in my opinion so I would say no on principle.

Agreed.

As kind as your OP implies, I think she sounds like she's taking the mick a little considering she just doesn't want to pay for it.

If she streams any movies or other copyrighted content you would be blamed as it's your connection. Under no circumstances should you let her use your wifi

You've already set up a guest SSID?

I would quick march over to 192.168.0.1 and disable it, or change the SSID to “Get your own wifi” and then put a random password on it.

Nope!

Regardless of what she does on the internet connection, you (or whoever pays for it) is responsible.
I wouldn't trust her.

If it was a long term neighbor that you spoke to regularly then fine id do it on a short term basis but not to someone who's entire relationship consisted of nothing more than "hi, goodbye."

Why would you give an old lady internet other than a young person? Old ladies can be just as bad. Manipulative old hags, a lot of them.
