Neighbour problems

Very well said. There is a neighbor above me that has a small dog. They leave it all day when they go to work. On the odd day that I am off midweek, you can hear the dog barking for literally hours on end. The poor thing can bark and cry for 4-5 hours without a break.

My neighbors dog was like this as a puppy, except they worked nights and the poor thing howled from 11pm till 6am.

Wasn't fun.

Report to RSPCA - it's unfair to regularly leave a dog alone that long, particularly if it has separation anxiety.

What do you think the RSPCA do will all the dogs that they will have to take away because most owners have a full time job?

I am against leaving a dog at home all day but reporting it to the RSPCA is silly.

Reporting it will make the person have to change their habits. If you can't arrange for your dog to be looked after or at least get it used to being alone for extended periods or have someone check in on it a couple of times a day then you shouldn't own a dog, it's unfair on the dog.

They shouldn't but life is unfair, the alternative is not practical.

It wont make the person change their habit because people have jobs and commitments they would put ahead of their pets. People are more likely to abandon their new pet than abandon their job to keep it company.

Realistically, what do you think the RSPCA would do if you called them on the tens of thousands of dog owners that do leave them at home?

And what change do you think the these dog owners would likely make?

To avoid the fines or having their pet taken away from them, I would expect them to put something in place, if they can't they don't deserve a dog.

I'm not so sure thats correct. Unless the dog was dangerous, as that would be default constitute preventing the person...

It was an opinion and nothing to do with preventing access, I said it was irresponsible. Any dog can be dangerous, letting a dog loose in a contained area is fine but an area where third parties have access isn't, what if the neighbour had kids around etc... You don't leave a dog loose, especially when there are others using the gate and potentially letting it out. It is simply irresponsible *if* there is shared access. If there isn't then just buy a padlock and problem solved.

Spring loaded gate is the only reasonable answer. Everything else in this thread is just stupid, especially the armchair RSPCA officers in here.

Perhaps you're being a bit stupid if you think leaving a dog loose in a place you don't have exclusive access to is responsible.

Dick in the flat above me came home one day with a great big Alsatian puppy (i think cant remember what type tbh). They both worked 9-5 so the dog was left at home all day on its jones, i work 5-2 and the odd nights so obviously home before them and my missus and baby were normally at home unless shopping etc.

This dog went balistic from the second they left for work till they got home, constantly barking and howling if we went into then garden it would stand at the window and bark and howell scaring my then 1yr old daughter.

I complained to the guy every day for a good few months, even called him at work and let him listen to the dog down the phone and the responce i got was "what do you want me to do"

in the end we complained to our estate managment people and the neighbours were given all the oppertinitys in the world to meet with them but whenever they would come round the neighbours would hide the dog and not let them in. Even tho they also came round during the day and listned from our flat and from outside thier door and recorded the dog.

They were issued with court precedings in the end after lying for So long as dogs/cats arent aloud to be kept in the block and were threatened with eviction (even tho were all owners) so they sold up and moved out! Turned out 6 flats had complained plus the two houses either side. Ignorant *******
