Netflix's Movie "Cuties"

I see netflix could be in some hot water...

Netflix indicted in Texas over 'lewd' depiction of children in 'Cuties'
https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture...-over-lewd-depiction-children-cuties-n1242304

A grand jury indictment for promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child was filed on September 23 in Tyler County, Texas, according to Texas Rep. Matt Schaefer.NBC News obtained a copy of the indictment Tuesday, confirming Schaefer's tweet.

Apparently that particular court has a habit of doing that sort of thing - remember in America DA's are usually elected so they'll do things as a stunt to show they're hard on crime, whilst a lot of Grand Juries will indict on very flimsy evidence that the DA has selected and pushed in such a way to get an indictment as all a "grand jury" basically decides is if they think something might need further investigation (so rather like the police opening an inquiry over here, it means very little).

Remember this is a film that has passed amongst others:
France's laws (filmed in France a country that has very strict laws on this sort of thing).
Rated at the BBFC - so it's been deemed ok in the UK and our laws are stricter than the US.
IIRC its been passed in Australia - their laws are stricter than ours (I believe they gave it a 15 equivalent due to "strong themes" but for what is actually shown it was all "moderate").

Which means that so far the only official action from any Western country has been some minor court in one part of Texas, not even at the level of a State investigation.

Lets not forget, this is the US. A country where this is considered normal practice.

I think people understand the message of the movie, they just don't think you can justify the content because of the message. You seem to be under the impression that people are just missing the point of it.

Exactly this, the means don't justify the ends.

The fact that it happens in real life at some dance schools, beauty pageants etc. doesn't mean the film shouldn't be condemned also.

The money spent on making this film could have been used to actually do something more productive at stopping these practises.

Has the movie broken any laws?

Has the movie impacted the participants negatively in any way?

Has the movie caused harm to any of its viewers?

Has this movie highlighted an issue to a wider audience?

Has that issue been taken over by the perpetually offended?

Are the perpetually offended only upset about the depiction of this issue?

Has the depiction of this issue been beneficial in any way?

Will the perpetually offended actually do anything about this issue affecting our children in real life?

Isn't that a shame?

The film was released as a 15 and uncut by the BBFC. I'm sure it's fine.
