network drivers..

hi. recently purchased a prebuilt system from ocuk, this model to be precise: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=FS-132-OE

i assumed networking/wireless drivers would already installed but apparently i was wrong. when i try to setup a connection, it tells me the system cannot detect any networking or drivers.

how might i get round this?

what model? your link goes to the main OCUK front page?, have you contacted customer services forum for support? or rang the shop?

it is the ultima dreadnought system. i would ring them but i have learnt from recent weeks that they cannot really cope with the current demand, especially in this busy period and i thought it might be more efficeent asking here than waiting 40 mins to speak to someone which seems to be about the average wait right now.

the network drivers should come with the mobo support dvd, didnt you get one? not sure if dvds are included with computer systems :S

Failing that, if you go to the MoBo manufactures web site you should be able to stick in the model number and download all the NIC drivers to a USB key and that should get you going.

cheers guys. well i have posted in the ocuk enquires part of the forum. but i am also looking on the intel download site of the appropriate drivers, but am having trouble.

my mobo is: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard

don't suppose anyone would kind enough to guide me on this site? the options are just confusing me, and in the search option, it comes up with nothing when i type in the name of the mobo..

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449#dl then select your OS (version of Windows) from the list and downlaod the network drivers there, you may also need the system drivers first, but give just the network a try for now.

just to be sure, it is the realtek lan driver that i want yes?

Get both... it wont install if it is the wrong driver!

right. so i have installed both the lan drivers for my mobo from that page, and now when i go to setup a network the option for broadband, and dial-up appears however there is still no way of setting up a wireless network. and the computer is showing no signs of detecting a wireless network.

any thoughts on this? is there a separate driver i have to install to be able to get wireless working? i cannot see anything else on that page which might be such a driver..

Can you open the device manager and expand network adapters and see if you have a wireless adaptor appearing there.

What OS are you using?

windows 7 mate. cannot find any mention of wireless adaptors in device manager, and when i go to set up my connection the only options i have are 'broadband connection' (so modem) and 'local area connection' (this is dial-up no?).

i actually downloaded and installed both lan drivers, but still no option to set up wireless network..

Well I dont want to rain on your parade but that board doesn't have a wireless card built in.

Have you added one/did you get the shop to add one?

well i'd rather i got to the bottom of it asap so better you rain on my parade now then someone else does later.

still, that is very annoying. i might not be very knowledgeable but i would have thought most mobo's nowadays would already have wireless cards built in? and surely if not, it would be something the guys at ocuk would think to mention during extensive discussion of what is a relatively high end pc.

so i now have to purchase and install a seperate wireless card right, no ifs or buts?

Actually most motherboard dont have onboard wireless. It's something that has never really taken off in the desktop market. Some do but I would say the majority dont. Normally for a gaming system you wouldnt want wireless anyway as most gamers will want low latency so use a network cable.

That USB dongle will work if you have a spare USB port. Alternatively you could buy an internal PCI one and install yourself if that takes your fancy.
