Network not up to speed?

Hello,

Although I have a 1GB connection from PC to PC I am only getting 100mb speed? Hopefully the picture will help explain what I mean...anyone have any idea what's going on?

(Edit, Its both PC's info, one displayed via Teamviewer)

Checked cable by using a known serviceable one? Can you describe the transfer going on there, from end to end, including storage devices?
 
See where you've circled 100 Mbps? Does that PC have a gigabit NIC? Are you going via a router or switch? Are the relevant ports all gigabit?
 
Hi, all ports are Gigabyte, the rate highlighted in red from windows resources monitor seem to change on the fly... The connection does go through two Gigabyte switches.
 
In resource monitor the graph will auto-scale to match the current throughput

As already mentioned the first place to look is the cables. One bad connection will drop a cable down from Gigabit to 10/100. As both PCs are showing as Gigabit I'd start with the connection between the two switches.
 
Edit, sorry missed the response above, I'll check the cables where possible, one of them is through walls and hard to easily swap) Is it normal for the numbers in red to change, sometimes resource manager will indicate 1gbs, or would this hint at a dodgy cable somewhere, as in should it always say 1 Gigabyte?

You need to look in the Network and Sharing Centre to be sure, but that doesn't sound right. I had a similar problem where I had a cable that was abraded by a door and worked at 100 Mbps but not at 1 Gbps. I used a chisel and cut a channel for the replacement cable.
 
What make are the switches? Do your switches show a specific colour for gigabit connections? What colour are the LEDs for the cable between the switches.

Not using powerline are you?
 
If playing about with the cables brings the speeds back to where they should be then maybe an application of some electrical insulation tape towards the jacks will help it stay there,for the cables that are fixed in the walls.

That being said a re crimp would be a better solution and isn't too difficult to do.
 
Op needs to give more info on the setup.

Are the switches connected via a single cable? Or by wall ports or by powerline.
 
Sorry not at home so can't check the makes of the switches, I know everything should be gigabite and no powerlines involved .. I'll check the colour of the lights on the switches. I fully networked the house when I moved in with cat5e cable, no wall panels used just switches.

After much investigation it was a cable only running at 100mb speed, I've got 4 PC's networked through 3 routers so took me a while to narrow it down...

Thanks for all the tips (the amber light on one of the routers was the big give away)

Sorry, 3 switches...I know there is no doubt a better way, but I have three PC's in the house, a couple are connected to smart TVs and 2 Sky Q minis are hardwired so switches seemed the best solution, when I moved in I re-plastered so cabled every room except the bathroom :) On the plus I'm now getting over 80MB when transferring files between PC's and the Sky Q mini never drop connection (these also act as a WiFi mesh so I get great WiFi through the house.)

(the 4th PC is in the ManShed at the bottom of the garden and is also hardwired)
