network protocols missing on this computer?

i use a computer that is in the bedroom. the router is downstairs almost directly below the computer. i was using wifi along time ago but i now use homeplugs.

i would often get disconnects from the wifi (hence the reason i now use homeplugs) which would seem like the router has crashed and you could also fix it by turning the router off for a few seconds, but nobody else in the house would have the internet go down on them (apart from when i turned the router off ofcourse). with the homeplugs this seemed to stop happening.

now since upgrading the windows 10 (even done a fresh install from USB device with no upgrading just straight into windows 10) i get this problem again but it offers more information now.
when i troubleshoot the problem i get told "one or more network protocols are missing on this computer". i have searched for some info and all i can find is that this is the result of some sort of update windows has done. if i wait for a few minutes 2-10 minutes normally this problem is resolved and i can use the internet again. but this can then happen again in a few hours time or the next day etc.

can anyone offer me some advice for this?

update the firmware on the homeplugs, to be honest the homeplugs are only as good as the wiring that you are using...

I had this problem. An instant fix is to uninstall network adapter in device manager, then scan for new hardware.
However it hasn't happens for weeks, so can only assume one of the windows updates has fixed the issue.

being the idiot i am i done what you said but didnt have the drivers or whatever here with me darn it, trying to download them on my wifi now with no wifi antenna attached lmao.

EDIT - so ive done as you suggest, now i will wait and see if it happens again.

Doh' probably should have said make sure you have the driver. It wasn't a permanent fix. It just fixes it so you didn't have to wait a random amount if time for it to work again.

That went in fir several weeks, then it suddenly stopped doing it. So can only assume some windows update fixed the problem, or maybe an updated driver.

yea it didnt last long. the next day it did it again.

my windows updates automatically so i should have had the update that fixed it by now :(

Probably just homeplugs being homeplugs.

Run a cable

W10 issue, I don't have home plugs.
Loads of posts on internet about it. Silly thing is only affected one of my w10 machines all the titters have been fine and as said it's been fixed for me anyway.

Worth Goodling it op and seeing if anyone found a mire permanent fix. I recon it's probably driver related.

Hmmm, my moms HP with Win10 losses wifi also (not really a big issue) the laptop is fairly new, so it seems odd for the wifi card to be going out... Not sure about errors, never looked...

This has happened on a few of my Windows 10 machines. However it seems to have caused the biggest issue on those where I had manually assigned an IP address.
One of my microservers had a manually assigned IP address of 192.168.1.4 but will no longer work with that since Windows updated itself on it. Now it will only work when I left it assign its own address. If it does it uses 192.168.1.17. So if I manually assign that address, with the right gateway etc the machine no longer has access to the Internet or network.
Two of our machines had their IP address automatically assigned and they are fine without the missing network protocol message etc.

For us the problem seemed to happen all at the same time across most of the machines, as they all had Windows updates applied.

i know this sounds daft but would windows manually assign an IP on its own? i have never doen this and nobody else in the house would even know how (tbh that includes me).

found the error log now while looking for another problem;- Name resolution for the name spynet2.microsoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

how do i set them to auto?

EDIT - this event also happened less than 5 minutes previous;- The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
and APPID
{9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

the source is DistributedCOM

So no one cares spynet is in that error? What a odd bug, my mom loses wireless sometimes & this is prob. it, never looked at the event viewer...

no, why would we. get the tin foil hat orr. you think they would name it like that.

Microsoft SpyNet is a cloud service that allows the users of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) or Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) to send reports about suspicious software and programs to the Microsoft Malware Protection Center (MMPC) researchers.

however it does point to a possible fix. ie disabling MSE and using something else.

this nonsense started back up about a week ago, after months of perfect running :( laptop is now basically unusable as it happens every few minutes.
trying to update it to insider fast ring as no such issues on my tablet, but the insider update isn't sowing despite it being enabled.

found this and have done steps 1,2,3,4,5, and well its been stable for more than 30mins. which is better than the last few days.
will have to wait a few days to see if it carries on.

well, I know kind of no the issue.

there's some sort of Bluetooth - wifi issue.
with Bluetooth turned off it's working fine.

think my laptop is dying, usb ports have suddenly gone odd and head phone jack out isn't working.

suppose I better reinstall windows and see if that solves the issue, but i''m thinking it's hardware.
