Well, it was another entertaining show, and Alex came across as a decent chap who was happy to be there. No snide remarks, no digs at over-preened wannabes or middle-aged funnymen... and maybe that's why it wasn't a shining example of classic NMTB.
Noel Fielding is beginning to get on my nerves now, though. This episode was the most blatant example of his decidedly unappealing "you've just said something funny, but I'm convinced I can top that with something that appears zany and random but is in actual fact drawn from a shortlist of things that I know will make me seem interestingly weird, because ultimately it's all about me" trait.
Admittedly, that's a step better than Bill "You can't go wrong with a woodland creature smoking a pipe in exaggerated fashion" Bailey, but not much. And he seems to care little for the music scene, surprisingly.
I wish they'd vary the rounds, too. The Identity Parade round takes up far too much time, with the same comedy devices wheeled out. "Or is it number five... [insert kiddy fiddler insinuation here]". "Number 3 looks like an extra from [insert TV programme here]". "Number 2 looks like he wants to kill me". Ho, ho and indeed ho.
But yeah, I'll be tuning in next week, unless I re-read my post enough times.
