I've never really needed to clean any system on a regular basis. I do it whenever I need to open it up to swap something or add/remove stuff. But I don't do it actively.
Never had any major issues. It's only when you leave a system for 5+ years it you should think about getting in there and stripping it down and giving it a good hoover.
Don't own any pets and wooden flooring helps a lot.
