*NEW* 150Gb Raptors

Well I have just plumped for a 150 gig raptor and will be saying goodbye to my 2 x 36gig raid 0 array.

I was running out of space on my system drive so it was either get two 74gig raptors or one 150 gig.

Hope I made the right decision. :)

Interested to see how you get on.

I am running out of space also on my 74Gb Raptor - my 9 x OSs are getting a bit crampted. :)

I have just cloned the Raptor to a 250Gb WD Sata II drive - for comparison purposes and to test out Acronis True Image. I am typing this on the Sata II drive, so the cloning has gone OK (so far).

Me and some of the other people on here have had faults with the drives not spinning up when the pc is powered on from cold. Takes 5 minutes to get into windows the first time. Then after a reset everything seems fine. Everyone that has had this problem seems to have RMAd their drives for new ones and it has been fine after that, im just waiting to call ocuk tomorrow to get mine rmad.

Is there any history of the 74Gb Raptors having that kind of problem? I ask because ever since I've had my new computer, a self build, it has taken quite a while for the PC to load into Windows from power on. I just reset it and it took 1 minute and 15 seconds to go from boot to Windows with 22 seconds spent on the scrolling bars. It took 15 seconds to get to that point so from about 37 seconds to 1 minute 15 seconds there was a black screen where nothing was happening before Windows logged in for me automatically. I think I may have chosen a poor striping option when I initially built the computer but even that shouldn't have been a big factor in the boot-up time.

The problem worsened if you like when I mentioned it to my flatmate who told me that his computer booted up faster than mine and he doesn't have a Raptor! Are there any tests I can run to see if my 74Gb Raptor is dud? It surely must be or I have majorly misconfigured it if it takes OVER a minute to boot up.

I know this is a thread about the 150Gb Raptors but the last few posts have alerted me to a possible problem and I'd like some advice as to whether people think my Raptor is also a dud. I will then look for or start a new thread about 74Gb Raptors and loading times once I've got opinions on my Raptor. Is it me and some setting I need to and can change or is it the hard drive? I've only had it a few months since this January so it should still be in warranty? I bought it from a competitor since OcUK didn't have the 74Gb model in stock when I bought the other components so I will contact them if people agree that it is a hard disk problem.

If I have to RMA the Raptor I have a second disk I can use to run Windows off in the meantime. In fact I might even install Windows to that sometime this weekend and see how fast Windows boots up on that disk compared to the Raptor.
