*NEW* 2015 Dell Inspiron 15 - 7559, i7 6700HQ/GTX960M owners thread

Hi Guys :)
How good is the hybrid disk drive in terms of load times ?
I presume there is space internally should you wish to install an SSD and retain the Hybrid ?
Is there room to install an optical drive or not ?

There is a free M.2 SATA slot (2280 size). A 120 or 250GB Samsung Evo SSD goes lovely with these. No on the optical. TBH I have not used optical since loading the Orange Box, which still required an ADSL kicking download :p

Hybrid drive is plenty quick for a 5400 2.5" drive, performs on par with good 3.5" desktop 7200 RPM drives from a couple of years ago.

Size and weight fine. It's slimmer than my last 15.6, about the same weight though. Cooling in these is excellent and very quite unless hammering the CPU/GPU, near silent all other times.

Now if you're a pixie or metrosexual, you might have issues with the weight of the laptop (2.7KG) and charger (700g?) :p

Open a chat window and tell them you don't have £750 and but want the laptop :)

There is also a UK site where you can save on laptops where it's sometimes sub £700 for the base model.

It is a bit of a shame the i5 model isn't really available in the UK. While the i7 is a great deal as it is, the option for a £100 cheaper model would be good

Hey i've been noticing when playing audio through my laptop speakers when it's on a surface like a bed or table i'm getting some sort of echo/crackling sound i think because of the subwoofer? when i lift the laptop so the subwoofer isn't touching anything i don't get this noise, is anyone else having this problem?

Could be something vibrating. I'd take the bottom cover off (1 screw) and see it it persists then reseat the cover

I'm looking at buying a refurb model. If everything else is the same, would you pay £25 for the 4k screen?

It's for gaming/travelling/movie watching etc. No video editing which I'd normally expect a 4k screen to be an advantage...

Personally, no. A mate bought his daughter one for her college work (god, we're all getting old) and Windows/some programs are laughably bad at that resolution, especially at the 15" mark.

With Dell though (but please check before hand), you shouldn't have any trouble returning it if it's no acceptable to you

I wasn't overly impressed with the 4K screen. Had it next to mine and it was way too reflective for me to be usable in our office with a moderate amount of morning sun. The one game that was asked for (The Sims something or other) was unplayable at the native res, text was eye test like and buttons/bars were a challenge to click with the touchpad. Was also a tad heavier, iirc. Hope it's ok for you though, I guess it's all subjective!

Have you updated the BIOS? There is at least two version out there (from the original)

I'll have a poke in mine tonight if I get the chance. On a 250 Evo it's pretty instant from the Dell splash screen (though I have a system password set) to loading Windows
