new 4300 build, no boot :(

Hey guys,

Just need some advice, i installed my new mobo p5n-e and 4300 yesterday. I have not been able to get it to boot unfortunately,

I have tried this with 2 different power supplies, but when the cpu is seated it will only power on for a second and then it will turn it self off, the mobo light stays on. However, without the CPU seated it will power up and stay on, of course it doesn't post.

Any advice is welcomed

good contact between cpu and hsf?
 
thanks for the reply darkside, noob question.. whats the HSF?

EDITED Ah the heatsink, this will happen when it is connected or not.. just did this to eliminate possiblities its a Artic Freezer 7

on my last build i couldnt get my rig to boot, thermal protection kicked in and shut me down.
turns out my heatsink wasnt sittng on the die properly.
worth a try, remove it...clean it up and take more care refitting it.
 
front panel connectors are correct, memory has been seated and unseated just in case

An update is that I dont have any thermal paste, I tried seating the stock cooler and the comp FINALLY PoWeReD up!!!

After installing all my components we are back to square one :( So I am assuming its me fitting the cooler bad and not having a good connection between them. So I am going to get hold of some thermal paste and see if that makes things better

Will update later ;)
 
Update

No difference apart from it working once, I have refit the stock cooler with fresh thermal paste and this makes no difference its really making me angry as I really dont understand whats making the problem

Changed power supply no difference,
reseated cpu countless times with Artic Freezer 7 and stock
reseated memory

But same situation without the CPU in place the power will stay on, as soon as it is seated except on 2 occassions... I can safely rule out the good HSF fit as i have done it so many times.

So, where am I at now?
 
Guys, i am tearing my hair out with frustration here. It looks like a return to overclockers to me. But i wanted some advice before i have to go down that route.

If you can think of anything that will sort it out that would be fantastic
 
The last time I encountered this problem it turned out that the motherboard had not been seated into the case properly. It was screwed directly into the case without the quater inch of separating screw in between. The guy that built it was the head of IT for a £10 Mil+ size company, but it's an easy mistake to make if it's your first time building from the ground up. In fact if I didn't have someone experianced with me the first time I built a PC, I can't see how I would have worked it out.
 
I thought of this, but i built the mobo on an antistatic bag so i have ruled it out for now. If it was the case, it wouldn't power up without the CPU in place
 
Could it be the PSU or a faulty motherboard. Edit: you ran the system out of the case with bare minumum hardware installed? ie, no pci devices or hard drives attatched or even cd-rom just to illiminate them all from the equation.

Seeing as in your other thread you say its not the PSU it has got to be the motherboard if its none of the rest surely.

tried 2 PSU already, and the mobo will power up when the CPU is removed. I haven't heard of many CPU being faulty out of the box, how about Mobo?
 
Yes, just cpu and ram, it wouldn't power up properly on the antistatic bag. As i said before its actually powered up twice but not posted so about 1/300 times it will power up

:confused: so freaking peeved with it
