new 4300 build, no boot :(

If it was the CPU usually the system would power up but you'd get no display from the monitor...but maybe these new processors act differently when they're dead, Im not sure....is there another system you could test the processor on, that way you'd know for sure whether it was the processor or motherboard that was faulty.

I wish I could do that mate! It would save me a few headaches before I cry back to Overclockers... the times it has finally booted it has not displayed anything.

Without being able to test another CPU with the MOBO and vice versa i can't know the problem or begin to really troubleshoot it correctly

Anytime I have ever had this it has almost always been due to the motherboard mounting. Oh and never run a motherboard on an antistatic bag(if it is one of those silvered ones), ie it's antistatic because it is conductive but is not intended to function when the device is powered, your just asking for one big short circuit.

its not the mobo shorting out on the case, i thoroughly believe a component is faulty whether its mobo or cpu. Going to talk to OCuk as soon as a i can get thru

gah what a pain,

just read through the post and can't quite see the problem. If it was memory or CPU then the board should still boot up but just not post, it sounds like u are saying you hit the power button, everything fires up and then powers down?

Kinda sounds like a short?

When you tried with a bare-bones build what was connected exactly. At a bare minimum it should only be the main power lead, the +12 volt power lead and the case power-on connector.

Basically it will get to the point where you will need to RMA, but it would be a real pain to RMA the wrong part, somehow you need to eliminate each piece, one by one.

This is starting to worry me now. I bought an e4300, DS3 and 2 gig ofTeam Elite mem. When I put it all together the system wouldn't POST. The drives and fans started up but nothing at all came up on screen, in fact the monitor didn't come out of standby. I thought it was something to do with the gfx card, so I put all the relevant bits back in my old case and it all worked - not the gfc card.

My assumption was that the DS3 was borked? I got an RMA and have the parcel sitting in the car waiting to go back to overclockers. But you are now saying it could be the mem or the cpu stopping anything happening on the screen?

If the memory isn't getting enough juice for its cas settings the computer won't POST. If the CPU is overclocked/undervolted the PC won't POST, if the graphics card is borked the PC won't POST.

A PC not posting usually includes the above, but a PC that boots and then powers off is a different kettle of fish . . .

CPU, Memory, GPU, Mobo can stop your board from posting. Unless you can test a each component separately then your options are limited. I take it you are not getting any beep codes?

One thing the Antec 900 doesn't have is a speaker. Does the DS3 have a little speaker on it? No beeps.

I tried the memory sticks individually, but couldn't test the bits separately since I am going from an AMD to Intel.

The board I am using (ASUS P5B-Deluxe) has a little woman built in, if there is a problem she tells me what it is via the proper speaker (plugged into the green port at back of PC).

Do u have a little woman in your mobo? :D

I didn't get any beeps and i have built in and out of the case, explained everything to OCuk and they say it could be a faulty mobo, so going to take it down later as I am local

If you dont get beeps(or a little woman9with a yank accent?) then yeah I would think its the motherboard.

for those interested, I got hold of a differnet compatible motherboard and the machine still wouldn't post.

Now apparently the CPU is the borked part!
