New 6600k build wont boot.

I suspect and hope its because the mobo has a 8pin CPU connector and my PSU only has a 4pin one. Im sure ive seen this before though and it still worked! (just checked old mobo that was also 8pin and ran on four pin)

I suspect the same thing, your old gear wouldn't of needed as much power.

Don't bother,I highly doubt its because of the 4 pin, just take mb/CPU/ram to PC shop and ask them to try their PSU in

I've never had a board not run just using a 4 pin,if highly over clocking an 8 pin is preferred

No need to take RAM as I highly doubt both sticks are dodgy, so trying 1 at a time would rule that out. Motherboard wouldn't power up if it was dodgy, but it might not boot if not properly connected(safe feature perhaps), and I doubt it's the cpu, but worth testing.

It would still boot, just be very hot.

I followed the guide or the cooler install on NZXT website. It has a CPU fan plug a USB internal header plug and then the fan plugs into the cable coming out of the cooler with the option of connecting another fan inline too.

Cant really go wrong with it. Ill be taking to PC in the morning ill update when I get back.

Thanks,
Sean

Doesn't haswell and newer have certain PSU load requirements? My Haswell PC wouldn't hibernate on my OCZ 600w. But will on my new EVGA 750W SuperNova.

I'd replace the PSU. OCZ aren't great anyway.

Also I am sure one of us would help test the machine for you. Should you tell us your locale

Yeah, there should be a cpu1 fan connector on your motherboard, just plug it into that.

So I took it a small local pc shop. He seems pretty confident its the mobo that at fault. He didnt actually have and CPUs to test it with but like you guys said they are pretty much never DOA. I rang up overclockers and they sent me an email detailing the RMA request.

From my personal experience, OCuk are pretty good with RMA's. The only thing to remember, is to follow the instructions to the letter in the Email they send you regarding how to box up your return goods. The main thing being (and I'm assuming this is still the case), box up your return (IE. don't use one of those big padded jiffy bags). They used to be quite touchy about this.

Fingers crossed you get this sorted promptly.

Just about to start my Skylake re-build, so about to go dark (as they say).

Yeah ive heard there good. Ive kept the original box they sent with all the packaging. Im only about 45mins away from them I suppose I could off drop it off seeing as will cost about £10 to ship I would have thought.

Hope yours goes well!

Hope yours goes well!

New system now up and running :)

Though unluckily OCuk did not have the Noctua NH-U14S in stock, so ordered it from another site. Unluckily DPD appear to have lost the parcel in transit (so awaiting resolution on this).

USed A Gelid Tranquillo that I had on my Sandy Bridge build and interesting to see (at least at stock) that even this mid range cooler is good enough. Idle 30c and mid to high 60's in Prime 95 (old v26.6 version). Though think I need something a bit better before trying to OC. And the NH-14s gets a good write up, even against ones with bigger HS's and double fans. Would have used the free cooler that came with the new kit, but unluckily had already ordered the Noctua .

Think the MSI boards are pretty decent and the BIOS is easy to navigate etc.

Only complaint would be a lack of USB2/3 ports on the back panel. So had to order a USB2 x4 add in backplate.

Hope you get yours sorted soon.

Interesting. I am literally just speccing up a PC now and looking at the same ram/mobo/psu combo. Only thing I am not decided on is the cooler, what have you gone for?

As above, the Noctua NH-U14S. But it now sounds like I will have to wait until DPD sort out the dispute with the seller (not ocuk), as it looks like its got lost in the post. The M7 mobo comes with a half decent free water cooler at the moment. Temporarily using the gelid cooler at the moment, as I don't want to use the free one, as I intend to sell it on the mm.

Hi,

I had an email yesterday from Overclockers saying there is no fault with the board and that they booted to windows desktop with it!
So its either the CPU or the PSU still. So annoying! How should I proceed just buy a new PSU to rule that out or RMA the CPU?

If I take it to there shop on Saturday do you think they will be able to test it there without having to send in post etc..?

Thanks,
Sean

This is very interesting to read, because I've had a strange issue with my new skylake rig. I too have the i5 6600k chip, an Asus Z170-A mobo, 16gb of DDR4 Kingston Hyper X Fury, 2666mhz. PSU is a super flower 550W, gold standard, modular. Samsung Evo 250gb ssd, plus 2tb seagate SHDD.
When I built the system, tried to power up, no POST. Just fans spinning and 2 green LED's on mobo.
Scratching my head for ages, trying to figure out what was going wrong. I followed all the steps, looked at loads of websites, trying to find a solution, even breadboarding the system, clearing CMOS etc, but rang overclockers, they said it maybe a mobo issue. So I RMA'd the motherboard, and received a replacement a few days later.
So I rebuilt the system, and tested it out, before fixing it into the case. It worked, so I installed the rest of the components. So everything was looking good, managed to install windows 10, and all the other software that I wanted, all good.
So after a few hours of using my new PC, all of a sudden, the PC immediately shut off and restarted by itself. I have never seen this before. Then about 15 mins later it did it again. So I thought, that some sort of fail safe was kicking into action, and I switched off the PC for night.
The next day, I go to switch on the system, and I'm back to square 1, the system wasn't even going to POST. What an earth was going on? I stripped down the system again to breadboard, and everything was removed, except the CPU, HSF, and 1 stick of memory. Then switched on, and it POSTED, then put it all back together again, updated the BIOS on the motherboard. Everything was fine again, no switching off by itself.
Next day go to switch on, and no POST, just fan spinning on CPU, case fans and GPU fan. I'm at a loss, to why this happening. I've ordered from eBay a PC POST analyser, so that should be here in a few days.
If anyone has any other suggestions, to what's going on, please advise.

Cheers
