I just bought a Sammy 500gb F3. My current OS drive is a 250gb i bought a few years ago with no real thought and is clearly the weakest link in my system (partitioned C: & D: ). I also have a 500gb server drive for storage (currently E: ).

Now, im thinking of just installling the F3 drive and putting all my games on it and not using it as the OS drive, so essentially E: and current server storage will go to F: (once i switch SATA cables etc).

Are there any downsides to not having games on the OS drive or is it irrelevent and all goes on the speed of the drive the games are on i.e not OS related??

I dont know if i want to reinstall Windows 7 again and go through all the updates etc!! however, if it would be the better choice, please tell me!!

Thanks

As above, the Samsung F3 uses 500GB platters and is a very quick drive if used as a primary HDD, you will likely see a noticeable improvement compared to your current 250GB.

Installing windows can be a hassle, but on a faster HDD the instal time will likely be a bit faster. As for downloading/installing updates - I usually delay them during the day and leave it over night if there is a lot to get through.

As for having games on a secondary drive - that is fine. However, if you play them a lot then you will be best putting them on the faster drive as they will load faster.
