New Antec HCG Pro ATX3.1 80+ Platinum PSUs available at OCUK and reviewed by Kitguru

To squash any miss-understanding about 12VHPWR vs 12V-2X6 connectors, the connector on the PSUs are 100% the same, the change for the connectors were only on the GPU side of the connectors. The spec and shape/pins etc have not changed on the PSU cables at all.

I'm just starting to swap my PSU over to the 1200W Antec and have taken a look at the 12V-2x6 provided cable. Do you think the cable is ok for my 5080? I'm asking as the depth of the individual pins are (slightly) different, or am I looking for issues?

@Ace Modder I'm going to use the supplied cable as shown in the images, but am concerned at the very slight discrepancies between pin depths. Thoughts?

Good to know thanks. Corsair do make reference to the PSU changing though for info.

"...we’re now seeing the introduction of a new connector on the GPU and the PSU side of things."

But yes, big picture underneath that which shows the GPU connector circled. Not the cable. :)

Do these psu’s come with enough 8 pin PCIe cables to connect a 5090 via the 4 plug adapter that it comes with?
You would expect to use the 12v2x6 cable supplied rather than an adapter.

But to answer your question: (on the modular panel) yes, if you only need one EPS12v for the motherboard, but no, if you need two EPS12v for the motherboard.

Edit: there's also not enough cables supplied for independent connections, since only 3x PCI-E 8-pins are included.

Indeed, but theres so much conflicting info out there. Some say it’s safer to use use the adapter, others say the 12v2+6 cable. I read somewhere that one of the cards, maybe msi? Comes with a leaflet that says to use the adapter.

I think Im going to go with a psu that I can do either with, then I can go with the safer option when more info comes out on whats best. The problem is, not all of the atx3.1 psu’s come with enough cables to use the adapter, corsair and nzxt do but I’m unsure on corsair as it’s they’re cable that’s at the centre of the melting controversy.

The MSI installation instructions/leaflet for the 5080 I just installed said to use the 12VHPWR that comes with the PSU rather than their own adapter.

What does the GPU state to use? Anything online about it? If not, use what ever it states. The GPU will have warranty.

Personally, I would opt for the method tha utilises the least connections. i.e. one direct from the power supply.
The more you utilise adapters etc, There will be a potential increase in issues. Straight through is my vote!

As others have mentioned, the spec of the cable is the same for 3.0 and 3.1, the difference is the connector on the GPU. However, some manufacturers, like Seasonic (OEM for Antec), have updated the design of their cables as part of the increment. The 3.1 PSU has a slightly shorter “hold up” time which improves efficiency. That is the only spec change apart from the connector on the GPU.

I bought this PSU and have it connected to my 5080. Today I was just making sure the connection was secure after reading all the melting stuff...but I'm just wondering does are both ends of the 12V-2X6 cable the same. Like is one end meant to go into the PSU only and the one is meant for the GPU. Or does it not matter which side you use. I didn't really look at the time and now I'm paranoid.

It doesn't matter. I connected my 5080 to the new Antec PSU yesterday and it's been working absolutely fine ever since.
