New Apple Hardware - Today?

I reckon designers have been screaming out loud for a 27" iMac and as I use a 27" inch Dell screen (1920x1200) at work I can say that 27" is not too big. 21.5" is a little small but good for having an iMac for the bedroom for example and better than the old rubbish 20" screen.

The MacBook is close to the Pro to tempt you to get a Pro but is still one of Apples best selling laptops. Now with a better screen and battery life.

Not many people get a MacBook Air other than CEOs but it gained Apple publicity so it has a point.

I think designers would have been much happier if the screen had been a 27" 16:10. 16:9 is an TV aspect ratio, 16:10 is for work, and they're obviously plugging the whole high-def movie angle with it. I bet the new Cinema displays won't be 16:9. Should have just gone the whole hog and made a 30" 16:10 model, maybe then we could have had dual hardrives too :D

Not sure, perhaps they were having the 24" panels made to measure (example), whereas they are simply dropping in some OEM LED-backlit panels from Samsung, Pioneer etc

Seems the most logical, but then you never know :o

I'd say 21.5 would be pretty big for most people.. until they see the 27"!

Thats a very valid point actually. If you went into a mac store n saw the 20" model you'd go. wooah nice. But then you see the 24" and its a wooah thats nice!
The 20 looked pretty big unless its stood next to the 24. Now 27" Cant wait till I can get one. Perfect machine for me.

How do you think the Core i7 will perform agaisnt the Core i5

I do a massive amount of Camera 12mp RAW editing. I would love that to be as quick as possible.

Well the iMac has always used mobile (laptop) chips, so these i5/i7 iMacs use desktop CPUs are always going to perform better.

I'd wait until barefeats.com has the new models just as they seem to really test and compare the specs the best.

Is there any performance hit in using windows under bootcamp on a machine like this? In other words, is the core i7 any less efficient when running bootcamp windows as it would be windows running on a PC? It looks like a great spec for all the gaming I do but not sure how restrictive, if at all, bootcamp is.

None. Windows runs natively on Bootcamp.

Bootcamp is just Apple's own way to partition the hard drive and boot from Windows discs for installation. It also pre-loads the drivers for smooth sailing.

When you reboot in to Bootcamp you're simply loading the Windows partition and as such it works as if you have a Windows machine. In fact you could delete OS X at this point and be rid of OS X.

ah ok. Thanks for clearing that up. Do you use normal drivers then I take it?

Just noticed that the new 27" iMac has a display port input, that means it can be used as monitor for external devices too!? (Macbook etc) If so, that is an absolute WIN!

Yup. DisplayPort is bi-directional, one of it's major advantages over HDMI.

I see no reason why a Blu-Ray drive or PS3 wouldn't work as an input.

Well I am typing this from my new 27" iMac, and I have to say the screen is amazing! I have it sitting next to my PC on which I have a HP LP2475w and I think I prefer the image quality of the imac, also nice to have the extra desktop space.

Now just to sell my Macbook Pro to pay for it....... ouch!
