New Apple TV

i always thought atv2 would be able to do 1080p if apple alowed it.

as for a5 being single core. makes sense to it runs cooler and aside from streaming media apple arnt intent on doing much with it. think appstore for atv might come when and if they release the next revision. at which point a beefy processor would make sense as would more mem and storage

I wouldn't think heat would be the issue. Maybe it's just using the same A5 revision as the iPhone 4S but to improve yields have physically disabled one of the cores, similar to what AMD do with their CPUs.

I don't know why you'd be disappointed about it not having something it clearly doesn't need because it performs every task it advertises it does with the resources it has?

When it's jailbroken and we can start running XBMC it'd definitely come in handy running the more demanding skins.

OK fair enough but only disappointing in the sense that it might not be able to do something it wasn't designed to do?

I've only ever used confluence to be fair, whats on offer with more taxing skins? I always assumed they were just pretty pictures and wouldn't be anywhere near taxing the hardware?

I heard that even those these things have an A5 chip, they're single core?

Really disappointed if that's true. Saying that, the A5 must be some kind of improvement over the A4 in other ways to be able to playback 1080p smoothly - it can't all be graphics acceleration can it?

The A5 has a more powerful PowerVR VXD IP block than the A4. Loosing a single cortex A9 core has no impact on performance (assuming your not falling back to software decoding for exotic files/containers) The GPU doesn't do any decoding.

I'm just trying something new with my ATV2, trying to stream content from my pc just in case its something to do with the USB drive and my crappy router.

I go to add a source, browse through to the smb network settings, then the workgroup and it says connection refused like my PC is refusing to share with the ATV2.

I can't see anything on my pc that would suggest that ought to be the case, in fact with my old router it worked fine.

Any suggestions for settings I might need to check? I've had a quick look at the router settings and I don't see anything obvious, the router is unfortunately this

which I'm half convinced is the issue, I expect it's a case of buy cheap buy twice and all that.
