New Apple TV

Excuse my ignorance, but why would you want 24fps when it does 30fps 1080p?

I'm with pioneer2000 on this, all my media is stored on one device - my Mac, which is always on but sleeping. All my content is streamed downstairs to the aTV on demand, and controlled by the remote app on my iPad.

I'm a big fan of the aTV as it does what I need perfectly.

Hmmm, perhaps I misunderstand 24fps, but as far as I am aware, since the iOS 5.0 update, the ATV2 copes with 24fps perfectly fine? Was always juttering before but now is pretty smooth 99% of the time with 24fps bluray m4v's.

In fact, I've just finished encoding Jurassic Park (19.1Mbps, 1080p, 23.976fps) - i'll give that a shot and report back in a second.

panzerbjorn - might be useful, but then again what's wrong with using itunes?

I have a MBP with a 128GB SSD HDD — I have ~2TB of media on a NAS.

Why would I want to have my laptop on to watch movies through a completely separate device?

I'm a big fan of the aTV too but it doesn't do what I need perfectly (out-of-the-box).

Hence why I like the Jailbreak+XBMC option. :)

Righto - ATV2 coped with Jurassic Park fine. Smooth as butter. Leaning towards 20Mbps being the ceiling though for streaming over Wi-Fi... was only just keeping up.

Proper 24p support is the biggest single benefit of Bluray for me. Was sick and tired of PAL DVDs running 4% fast - the pitch change on the audio drove me to distraction.

Pretty much the reason why I imported most stuff from R1 on DVD.... the pitch change (on music in particular) did my head in!

Still fancy another ATV though, purely because it's a damn cheap streaming box that's got a high spousal acceptance factor.... always a bonus for anything shiny that isn't a patent leather pair of shoes.

Same - even now most of my DVDs are R1, although I was a very early adopter with DVD and importing was the only way to actually get hold of things back then as the R2 catalogue was farcical.

But this is getting off-topic... :)

Got at ATV3 sitting here. Unfortunately I won't be able to set it up for a few days as I've got visitors. As soon as I do I'll post some views.
