New Asus' OLED monitors

All my coverage is coming up very soon for these new screens, plenty of interesting stuff to talk about. I can tell you the QD-OLED models have an added matte AG coating, a deliberate choice to offer users a choice between glossy (WOLED) and matte (QD-OLED). It’s the new optional coating from Samsung display and does a really good job of handling glare and reflections without adding grain.

Fair point, hopefully it’s just their standard coating.
I believe it’s 1099 USD and Q4 debut for the flagship. The 720hz Woled will be the official monitor for the Counter strike major in December so interesting to see the reception there. Not too sure about 1080p at 27 inches I’m not the biggest fan of it on 24 even. As you might have guessed:D.
Right now I think the pg27AQWP is still the best competitive fps monitor. 1440p 540hz but no RGB stripe and 27 inches keep it from being perfect in my eyes.
TBF all this talk of a 24.5" 1440p high refresh OLED with RGB stripe has me genuinely wanting that exact same thing.

I remember using my Dell S2417DG from when it released up until 2021 or so and it was perfect. 1440p at 24", 165hz and a native Gsync module too. The only downside was the 6 bit panel meant it had some awful colour banding and the viewing angles of that generation of TN monitors really meant you had to have it right in front of you.

Hopefully Asus or someone see's the opportunity to compete with Zowie's latest 24" 1440p but with an OLED panel and we'll get it sooner rather than later.

For many years I have been gaming on a 32" 1440 VA monitor using AMD cards 5700XT and 6800. Just recently got a 32" Asus OLED XG32UCDS 4k and generally impressed. So much so that my son and daughter upgraded their 1440 monitors VA also to 4k OLED but a betterer spec ASUS XG32UCWMG.

I was worried about the drop in FPS going from 1440 to 4k - however yes I do have less but it is still usable. I think over the years that the AMD radeon drivers and windows updates have gradually improved FPS.

One thing that annoys me about my ASUS XG32UCDS 4k OLED is that even with the proximity turn and pixel cleaning off - the monitor periodically goes dark for 1 to 2 seconds even during gaming.

comparing my QD-OLED XG32UCDS to my son and daughters WOLED XG32UCWMG it seems that their WOLED gives a better picture! It may be because it is a slightly newer model (costs more) and has the more durable black coating. All the reviews I previously had seen were saying that the QD-OLED should be better - but this doesnt seem to be the case between the XG32UCWMG and XG32UCDS

That random black screen doesn't sound great, I'd have assumed it was related to the prox sensor and you being slightly out of the range but if you've got that turned off then it's a bit peculiar. I only ever notice my Asus OLED do it when I go out of the 90cm range for the prox sensor I've got set.

It's going to be entirely down to that coating on the XG32UCWMG. The 'trueblack' glossy coating really does do a fantastic job of making the picture look that extra bit special. The QD panel is still incredible, I think it definitely has more colour volume and can appear punchier but it does suffer from the raised blacks when the room isn't dark. That + the combo of the trueblack coating on the XG32UCWMG is probably the reason behind how it appears.

If you put them both side by side in a very dark room at night I think you'd struggle to tell the difference, if potentially finding the QD slightly nicer.

Looking at some more normal size monitors incase of me downgrading my gpu due to hard to ignore profit.

XG27AQDNG: 27" QHD 400Hz QD-OLED

This monitor is returning a version already out which is 360hz?

Sorry, typo from me. That one should be XG27AQDNGR.

Outrageous.

I’m looking at 1440p as 9070XT doesn’t look like a capable 4k card without a lot of compromises. So IF I got one, I’d rather the higher fps. Shame as from what I see, none of the 1440p use the stripe sub-pixel layout.

Yeh, unfortunately none of the current 1440p offerings are RGB stripe. I think the current tandem WOLED aren't terrible for text clarity but RGB stripe still clears. You could always look at the 34" ultrawide QD OLEDs? The more recent 360hz ones are all RGB stripe.

Apparently that 400hz 1440p model coming next year (also TB600) is going to have Samsung's RGB stripe layout so that might be worth waiting for. I know Gigabyte are releasing their own version of it too - likely some time in Q1 next year.

I did think about it but just find UW too much of a faff. But could be tempted if I can get one for around £500 (I assume you mean 280hz as the dell one with stripe is)

I think Asus and MSI have 360hz versions (PG34WCDN for Asus) and then there are the same panels that are 280hz - but probably not the cherry picked ones that hit 360hz.

I'm also in the same boat with UW though, I play too many games on console to worry about UW support.

Oh yeah my bad, it says V-Stripe which isn’t the same thing is it? Those ones you linked are nice but far too much for a stand-in monitor, that more of a here to stay price for me!

I plugged in my cheap 4k the other day 27”, and moved it close and had this weird feeling wash over me like I was playing a pc game, playing on such a big screen whilst cool for a lot of games, feels like I’m playing on a console. There’s nothing wrong with that at all, and I have been doing so for years but that brief session with the 27” brought back a nostalgic feeling almost. I appreciate this sounds completely mental.

Nah, I get what you mean. There are moments where I'll use a 24" monitor and be reminded of why I first really fell in love with fps games and games in general. Last night I plonked a spare monitor on my sofa and just played that way and it brought back a bunch of that same feeling.

If you were looking for a good monitor to tide you over for a little bit I genuinely think LG's 27GX700A is worth it. I think text clarity is alright once you've got used to it, better than 1440p QD OLED (although I except that's personal preference). It's 280hz so plenty of refresh rate headroom, tandem WOLED, it gets really bright with the TB500 cert and I'm a sucker for the horizontal facing ports on the back.

I know LG are rightly getting a lot of stick for their spyware at the minute which probably explains why this monitor is reduced but you can get it for around 425 on OCUK right now - and I think it's probably the best 1440p 240-360hz monitor available. Gigabyte's tandem WOLED is good too - but it's around 100 quid more for the same panel (and GB have the gimped HDMI 2.1 port).
