new avp same as mw2 :(

Why do you think that's a photo of the PC version and not a console?

cause if you look on all the avp fansites they already have there own petitions going up :( you have mw2 just doing the same and when asked about if it would be the same they would say or comment .

in the current backlash that mw2 is recieving you would think that if the game was dedi server supported they would have been singing from the roofs about it .

So people are speculating about something they don't know official details of and creating petitions based on this speculation? This is indeed a revelation!

I played the avp ps3 demo at the eurogamer expo and that screen looks exactly the same as the lobby for the console versions.

I dont believe that any information has been released as to what the multiplayer for the game will or will not support. It will have a steam installation tho as it says on steam you can pre order it now.

Im looking forward to the multiplayer mode that is like left 4 dead ie 4 marines or predators against swarms of aliens!

Almost as much of a relevation as finding you yet again in the thick of it sniping at the frustrated and dissapointed PC gamers.

I thought it was said a month or so back that AVP was going to be P2P based? I seem to remember pepole going on about it in the MW2 thread saying things like "Great, another game ruined. Roll on the new BF game". Not sure where they read the information back then but it's been said for a while it will be P2P.

One of the developers (iirc) dodged the question when asked specifically about dedicated servers which does make the outlook seem pretty grim, however nothing is confirmed as yet and I'm cautiously optimistic.

Having said that MW2 is selling amazingly well which pretty much vindicates the whole "dedicated servers are defunct" position :( (which I disagree with incidentially - dedicated servers will always be better than P2P for PC gamers).

first AvP was peer to peer and that was fine, it was also terrible netcode but a good multiplayer experience. Spent many hours in the mplayer lobby

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :P my days seem to be getting steadily worse. It doesnt bother me as much that this game is set up this way compared to MW2. However it would seem the dangerous precedent has allready been set with MW2 :(.

Wasnt that out around 10 years ago though ? I remember buying it, you would think perhaps they would move with the times.

2nd AVP was fantastic for multiplayer and that had dedicated servers. That would show that dedicated is better than P2P.

I think the mod community would be upset if they couldnt host their own mods on servers.

Unfortunately "the times" point to games becoming more and more "pick up and play". MW2 sales figures already show that the niche market that is "enthusiast PC gamers who care about mods/dedicated servers" is largely irrelevant. It's already sold 7 million+ copies worldwide

Found this insightful comment on Digg which basically sums up my thoughts perfectly:

All you have to do is not buy the game. You can create online petitions, forum signatures and formal letters all you want. It's not like they are killing babies. They simply didn't create a recreational GAME to your standards. Did they drop the ball? Probably but it's like when Kodak ended Kodachrome film. Sure a lot of old school purists shook their fists but at the end of the day, those purists weren't making money for Kodak. You can't run a sucessful business on principal alone.

They are all in existence to make money. It's dirty, and rotten and mean, I know. Maybe it's up to the thousands of disenfranchised to actually do something about it if it really means all that much. Perhaps it just comes down to play another game to play that allows all that. The fact of the matter is (like it or not) PC gaming is a niche market. It's core group of gamers who spend thousands of dollars on just the system (for anything decent anyways) just to play their games. So, why not move on and play another game?

If YOU were trying to make money. What would you do? Would you:

A) Cater to a niche group, who a good fraction of pirate copies of games and create content for these games without you getting a dime. This all while claiming everything should be free anyways.

B) Cater to a popular market. Where the hardware, after 20 years has finally come up to a decent spec where they can make incredible experiences. Where you can charge for new maps, have the hardware company crack down on pirating and modifications AND not deal with incessant whining (on the whole anyways).

It's a symptom of the computer world changing. There are aspects I don't like either. At the end of the day, it's a game you have an option to play. Aren't there more important things to get all up in arms about?

All this talk of a lesser product.... Does the Xbox 360 compare in specs to the higest end gaming rig? ***** no. However, for most video game fans (they became that way by owning stupid ol' a Sega/Nintendo) the ability to come home from work/school and flop on the couch and bust out a few minutes or hours of gaming was incredible. Back in the late 80s early 90s gaming on a PC required actual computer know how and patience. Now years later I can get a mostly equal graphical and playability experience and still play on my couch. I'll admit I gamed using my PC for a while, playing notably Descent and Quake 2 then playing Diablo 1 and 2, Starcraft and Warcraft but still these were to augment my total gaming experience as I owned consoles at the time too. At that time a console couldn't come close to reproducing (to be honest, RTS games, will never feel right to me on a console) these experiences. I feel at the end of the day it comes to ease of use. Unless you're BIG into PC gaming, you just don't want to deal with the hassle and cost. At the end of the day the 'lesser' product still creates an experience most folks prefer over the 'better product' and for good reason. Ease of use.

In general companies want to make money and consumers want things to be easier.

So yes, in this case you have to accept it.
It is a shame if you're one of those people who have grown up with dedicated servers (I count myself as in that group starting out on QW, Q2, Tribes, etc) and know what it means to go from that to P2P, but it is what it is. QQ'ing about it and e-petitions aren't going to do make the slightest difference, we just have to make the best of it now.

Simple answer to this kind of answer is NO. Why settle for second best when pc gaming has made the consoles what they are today. Pure and simple its lazy developing, if your not going to cater for the format which the games started out on. By the way its not QQ its simple fact i like my games on a DS not on someones host which does not provide for fair gameplay as the host will ALLWAYS have the advantage.
Gaming is generally more fun on a DS, people have allready mentioned why admins, new maps, clan wars ! I mean pc gaming is starting to lose its main method of competitve gaming. So Durzel if your one of the very few Pc gamers that doesnt mind, then you stick with your x box 360 , sorry i meant pc. For the rest of us we will stick with the superior method of gaming.

Wasn't a confirmation, more of a deflection as the interviewer asked three times if they would have dedicated servers and got not real response. More than likely it will have a similar P2P system to MW2 now that the game is a success.
