Well the 2006 is lighter than the old one, and better components but is it worth the £170?

Over a hardrock, yeah. Over the 2005, maybe. Can you post the specs of each?

Id go with the old one and use the difference to get some decent tyres on it (will cut off lots of weight) and save the rest toward a new fork. Have you ridden them yet?

well it gets to over £400 with new forks and tyres..so maybe it is worth buying the new GT as the frame is better.

ive lifted both and the new one much much lighter..the components are better, and so are the forks...

im wondering whether buying the gt is worth the £170 gap ontop of a HrdRock Sport..

I think so. Ive never really liked the hardrocks, not in stock form anyway.

Well set up you probably wont want to upgrade anything for quite a while, till maybe disc brakes, or you break something. Id lay down the extra.

Oh yeah I forgot about pedals, Ive never bought a bike that came with any

Id change them pretty soon, if the bearings dont fail you, the first decent size rock you clip will.

The pedals look like Truvativ platforms. They should last longer than the cheaparse tiogas which seem to come with most low priced bikes. They're probably not Holzfellers or Hussefelts, but they aren't bad. The bearings will rust pretty quickly though, if a rock doesn't finish them off.

If the pedals seem stable, wait till winter. Crappy bearings should get you through summer fine.

Number one thing to buy, HELMET!!! Gloves are nice, and at least a rear light.
