New bike upgrade

I just use some bog standard regatta walking shoes, picked them up at TK maxx for £25.

They are a bit clumpy but well built and very little flex in the sole, they are basically my winter shoes which serve a dual purpose for biking.

The tread pattern looks quite gappy but I can't say I can ever recall loosing grip on my flat pedals. I don't see the point clipping in your feet on a mountain bike.

Hi Guys just need some help. on Tuesday I did 21miles on the bike and during the ride I really started to notice a squeaking on the back of the bike. So I decided to take it to Halfords since I had my 6 week service. They said they would sort it so I have picked it up this evening and went off home and after 5 mins of riding it started again.

Just wondering if any one might have some ideas?

I think thats what the guy said when I took it into Halfords the other day but should it have started again within minutes?

Is it a fix that I could maybe do?

Make sure your rear wheel is in properly first.

If it's only once on a revolution then work out where and which pad it's touching and bend the rotor back with your thumbs gently.

If it's constant then the caliper will need aligned properly using the two 5mm allen keys above the caliper.

Cheers Jonny finally just got round to having a look at the bike just now and gently gave it a push which seems to have stopped the noise. so going to see how I get on when i go out on it at the weekend.

Thank you.

Also worth checking there's no play in the hub bearings, if you can feel any 'play' by trying to rock the wheel side to side, that will also cause the disk to wobble, resulting in a similar rubbing effect.

That said, if mechanical disk brakes, and it's due a 6 week sevice, bikes probably too new to have bearing issues, I'd say the brakes just weren't set up very well. Easy to fix, but a bit of a faff, lots of vids on youtube, all you need is an Allen key, some thin card like a business card, and some patience.
