Well my new upgrade with BT is complete but my connection drops a couple of times a day for 10 seconds. It logs me out of Xfire, MSN, out of games etc.

Obviously it is really annoying but I don't know where to start to troubleshoot it!

Have you just upgraded to max? If so your router is testing your connection to find the most stable speed for you. It's supposed to last about 10 days, but I upgraded 13th April and still get 60+ disconnects a day

There are quite a few threads on max problems around here.

Ah, well this has been going for about a month! Also, in my Network Connections sometimes there is an 'internet gateway' and sometimes there isn't! Whats going on here?

Give ya ISP a jingle and get them to do a line check!

Your router does uPnP. Because it's nice and reliable, your machine sometimes sees it, and sometimes doesn't.

Extracting stats from your modem (of course, telling us what modem you've got might be useful) might be a better idea than chasing your ISP (what ISP?) just yet.

I am with Zen but my post is relevant as all Max DSL connections use BT Wholesale.

I lose the connection every 24 hours despite me no longer being within my 10 day training period and I have also requested to have interleaving enabled.

What I think happens is that my SN/R margin drops like it used to when on a fixed 1 Mb speed line where my downstream SN/R margin used to vary between 24 dB and 29 dB depending on the time of day.

My connection is as stable as a rock until the evening when crosstalk and interference bring the SN/R margin down from 6 dB until after an hour or so it gets to around 2.5 dB and then I lose the connection.

When I re-connect, my sync rate is slightly lower but I have a SN/R margin of around 6 dB again and this is usually enough to last until the next night where the same thing happens again!

I have recently installed a SpeedTouch tool where you can specify the lowest SN/R margin that the router will sync at as well as a host of other tweaks but, unfortunately, it's all in German so I can't do much with it to be honest
