Hi, I need some help deciding what PC spec to purchase and build in the next few days.

My current spec is:

Dell U3818DW 3840x1600@75Hz
[email protected]
Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7
Gigabyte 2080 Super Gaming OC 8G Rev 2.0
Team Group Dark Pro "8 Pack Edition" 16Gb (2x8Gb) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz
Samsung SSD 960 PRO Polaris 512Gb M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe
Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256Gb SATA
WD 3Tb HDD
Fractal Design Define R6
Fractal Design Celsius S36 360mm AIO
Windows 10 Pro

The contents of this PC, other than the AIO and WD 3TB HDD are going to my daughter into a new Fractal Design Meshify C Case I've already got.

As such I'm in the market to build a new machine for myself and get a new 27" or 32" monitor, an AIO and a set of small PC speakers for my daughter's build.
NO PSUs are needed for either build as I have a Seasonic Focus Plus 750W Gold in mine and a Corsair RM650 in daughters PC.

My budget is £2K - £2.5K for the new contents of my machine, the AIO, the speakers and the monitor.
My use is work as a dev and non-professional gaming, games such as Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3 and Outer Worlds. The PC will also drive my room scale HTC Vive setup.

I'm not sure whether to go Intel or AMD this time and whether to get another 2080 Super card to drive my U3818W.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Is the 27-32" monitor and AIO (along with speakers) all for your daughter's build? In my head I can't tell from the way you worded it :o lol - I read it a 2nd time and now think the monitor/AIO is for your daughter, as your last sentence leads me to believe you're just sticking with the U3818W for yourself? Then your other sentence makes me think you're having the AIO? I'm lost :D I presume your daughter is also going to be gaming with your old rig too? And also presume you're re-using your current case to confirm? (it could be that it's late and about to go to bed, that I can't comprehend lol)

Confusion aside, this would be my pick... OcUK don't have a great stock of speakers tbh, if you look up Logitech Z333 they are a nice 2.1 set for £60 (if that's your sort of small speakers for daughter kind)?

3900X and 32GB RAM - lots of cores and memory for dev work. Your monitor is a little chunk over 1440p I think in terms of pixels, so a 2080 Super would do very nicely and it's within your budget so why not? That 1440p monitor is still on sale, not sure when it ends, but it's fantastic and very well reviewed (presuming this is for daughter & she's gaming on the pc). OcUK recently got stock of it and sold out again, but the sale price is still on it seems. 1TB NVMe for some nice fast storage... H115i PRO XT cooler is also very well reviewed.

But this all comes nicely in the budget and would run very well for a while (let me know if I missed anything)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,183.93 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Sorry for the confusion, but you got it dead right. Thanks for taking the time to read it and give me your suggestion. Daughter will use hers for gaming and school work. I've always gone for intel in the past but been curious about building an AMD rig for some time. Will take a look at the components you've listed. Thanks again.

AMD's Ryzen CPUs the last few years have stomped Intel, especially in price/performance ratio - if you do dev work you'll appreciate the extra cores and horsepower the 3900X would bring over Intel these days - 12 cores and 24 threads! :p

The LG monitor seems to be back in stock today too, also at sale price still. :)

P.S. Your daughter is going to have a killer rig for gaming and school work, 2080 Super geez :D Lol

Thank Sparx!

She will have a sweet build that will last quite a few years hopefully.
Trying to see what the difference is between the 2080 super windforce and the existing one I have (that I got for an amazing £620 at another retailer last Christmas) and work out which one to keep for myself.

I would love to upgrade my Dell U38 to get more than 75Hz, but nothing else compares to it in terms of functionality, such as being able to connect my work laptop to it via usb c and the built-in KVM that allows me to use one keyboard and mouse for both the laptop and desktop.

They seem identical from what I can tell, only difference I can see is yours has a slightly higher 'stock overclock' Boost 1845 MHz (the Windforce is 1830 MHz)

Not enough room then for dual screens? :p Could get the same LG monitor I suggested for daughter to game on yourself as well - 1440p, 144Hz and G-Sync haha

One thing to bear in mind is nvidia are going to be releasing the new 3000 series Gpus around September which should offer a lot more bang for your buck.

Thanks Sparx for the suggestion but I don't think I can get away with another screen.

Joxeon, unfortunately I can't wait as much as I would like to as I need to get my daughter's machine up and running in the next week or so.

Maybe just grab a cheap Gpu to tide her over then once the new cards drop pick up a 3080 for yourself and hand down the 2080 to your daughter.

Agreed, good idea @Joxeon - worth waiting if you'd like a new 3xxx series GPU later in the year :)

And a 980 GTX isn't a bad little number to game on for a few months either!

Going to wait on the GPUs card purchase.
If I was to go for a 32 inch monitor instead of the LG would the gigabyte G32QC be a good option?

With the NVMe drive is it worth going for the WD black rather than the blue for the extra £15?

Blue SN550 is plenty for the normal user, unless plan to transfer large files constantly. The SN750 just has slightly higher read/write speeds overall.

Not heard much about the G32QC, it's quite new out still. But skimming this review it seems to be a nice purchase.

So, going to buy this setup with the G32QC and wasn't going to buy a graphics card, but now the 980GTX has decided to stop functioning!
Will I be able to drive the G32QC with a 2070 Super at 2560x1440 165Hz (or thereabouts) with the majority of settings set to High?
Or do I bite the bullet and keep with the 2080 Super that I initially looked at?
