Hi Guys, A little out of the loop so currently starting to swat up :o

But looking to build a PC for a mate to run 3 monitors @ regular HD resolutions for gaming modern and future tiitles.
We already have a case with Custom watercooling, so will be utilize that, we may or may not put GPU under water but certainly the CPU.

Like I say I haven't yet swatted up, but currently thinking along the lines of i7-6700, and GTX1070.
Would this be up to the task, or would we need to look to a 1080 ?
I imagine even the 1080 would not be man enough for 3x 4K monitors ?

Obviously we don't want to spend more than we have to, but we are not looking to penny pinch if the performance gains are worth the extra outlay.

Your thoughts and suggestions most welcomed :D

No that's mine ... this is for a mate to replace his aging system.
I can't recall off the top of my head, but its got plenty of room :)

Do you know what fittings the cooling uses? i.e socket 1150/55/56/51 as they all the same fitting.

Its an old AMD system so I will likely need adaptors at least. We will likely get a new WB for the CPU anyways ;)
The case is a Corsair something !

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,171.89
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Hows that?

The card should be fine for 3x1080p screens, SLI is an option later on.

3x4K would be too much for a 1080 I reckon.

You get a free 700W PSU with this GFX card - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18748480 - sell it maybe or even try it instead of the EVGA>

Kinda wondering about jumping up to the 1080 personally ?
We already have a Corsair 850W PSU so that should be OK :)

Should do, there are youtube videos of them doing it with various games.

Also people have run 3 screen setups and played games on weaker last generation cards just fine.

You will need more than a single GTX 1070 for 3 x 4K monitors then. You are looking at a resolution of 24.8 Megapixels.

This vid shows 3 x GTX 980's running 3 x 4K screens.

They are faster in both read/write (as they aint limited by the SATAII bandwidth) and also way higher IOPS (instructions per second) as long as its a NVME version which that one is in the link.

Cheers guys, My fault Lee32uk, I mentioned it in passing, but more in seeking confirmation that even a GTX1080 wouldn't run that solo.

So you guys agree the 1080 isn't worth the extra for 3x 1080P gaming ?

I was looking at benchmarks run at UHD as a guide (I haven't found any with 3x HD) and it generally looks to be between 12-20% faster at uhd on most titles.
For sure the 1080 cost's 33% more, so less bang for buck.

Your middle sentence is meant to say 4K over 1080? Is so yeah not worth it as the cards not strong enough.
