bang for buck doesnt apply to rigs that cost £1k and over. The price difference between the best AMD rig and an i7 is not that much. pay the extra and get the overall better system weather you use the extra features or not at the moment. you dont know wot youll be into round the corner.
Most retarded statement ever?? A budget is a budget. And ~£150 to go i7 is a whole 15% of 1k so i7 better offer some compelling advantages. In gaming it doesn't - simple as that.
is a system costing £1k or more a budget system? i dont think so! if your going to spend this type of money then you must get the very best you can or your slapping yourself in the face. who wants to change a 950 to an AMD/760 so they can put in a blueray burner and tap on a SIDEWINDER keyboard!

you dont understand wot im trying to say. a lot of ppl on here try to use "bang for buck" theory (wot they think it means and not the real aim) with high amounts of money. the fact is it doesnt work, they are incompatible. your handicaping the core of your system to include luxury extras like a SIDEWINDER and a Blueray burner. bang for buck is all about getting a £500 system to perform just aswell as a £1k system not the other way around lmao. Liampope has no clue wot hes on about.

Only you think a build over a certain amount of money must contain an i7, and that's because you're obsessed with e-peen and 'having the best gear'. You think an i7 simply must be better than anything else for any use because it's the most expensive premium platform, and anyone spending over 1K simply must have one. You ignore what the OP is intending to use the system for and what the many tests/benchmarks say about the cheaper options available. Stupidity of the highest order. If you think ~£150 for the premium platform, for e-peen and a 0 FPS boost in games is a good idea, in a budget where that would mean a weaker GPU, no SSD, no bluray/nice peripherals etc etc, good for you. Thankfully most people have more sense.

im steering well clear from the core arguement here (otherwise ill find myself trying to justify an AMD system and failing miserably...), and making one tiiiiny point to stulid
whilst i (and probably many others) agree on the ugliness, looks is purely a matter of opinion. Im usually pretty stingy with money, so as the PSUs are of similar quality, i would pick the cheaper (whilst it still in the promotion) higher rated OCZ one, and have a look around for some cheap pcie extension cables or find some other solution if i wanted to hide the 'ugliness'.
Might sound pedantic, but i think the OCZ is a pretty good buy at the mo.

Meh, i really like the combination of the black edition hex core and that rather outstanding Crosshair 4 mobo. He should be able to achieve an outstanding OC on my build practically at the push of a button with the money saved from an i7 going towards a 120gb SSD. It is what i would do in a heartbeat with that budget, that system would be a dream to own.
