New Build BSOD/Win7 locking up

I have just put together my new build pc and after installing windows 7, all the drivers and microsoft security essentials it seems to lock up completely. sometimes giving BSOD.
I have run Prime95 twice, both times the last thread has thrown up errors after 15 minutes and 55 minutes
Running memtest86+ gives me loads of errors on stick one spread over only test 5 and errors at the end of stick 2 also on test 5. (running both sticks separately)
In the bios the only thing I changed was sata controller to AHCI. then I noticed that the timings on the ram didnt match up with what was in the bios so I changed them from 9-9-9-28 to 10-10-10-32 that was specified on the ram stick.

I have ruled out installed driver issues as I did a fresh install with the bios set to failsafe mode, changed sata mode to AHCI and reinstalled windows. only installing the ethernet driver and once again installing MSSE only for it to crash on updating.

I don't want to update the bios as if I use the @BIOS update and windows crashes I'm screwed and I am also a bit wary of updating too.

I would be very appreciative of any help you could give me.

Specs:

Gigabyte 970A-D3 version 1.1
AMD FX-6200 3.8GHz 6core
ASUS HD6670 800MHz core 1GB DDR3 at 1800MHz
Geil Evo leggera dual channel PC3 14900 1866MHz 4GB x2
Akasa Venom 750W modular power supply
Samsung 830 SSD 128GB
Toshiba 1TB 7200rpm HDD
LG 24x DVD drive

As your getting errors with the memory running memtest, couple of options is; try upping the memory voltage a notch, ie to 1.55v instead of 1.50v if this does not work then I would look at returning the ram as these look faulty.

Oh, Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Thanks :)

Ill give it a shot now, seeing as its still in failsafe mode would you suggest putting it into optimised mode and setting the ram timings to 10-10-10-32 instead of the default 9-9-9-28

Upped to 1.55v, health status now showing between 1.5 and 1.52

What would the best way to test the stability of the RAM now, run memtest? or wait...

Locked up again, when trying to update MSSE. seems I lose internet connectivity, none of the buttons respond then mouse locks up after 10 more seconds. Any more suggestions?

2 errors with both sticks :) getting there. voltage is showing 1.568v in pc health perhaps increase a little more?? and what would be the safe zone? i.e. i dont want to lie on borderline errors. if the voltage fluctuates it could still crash.

EDIT: I only finished test 5 as this was where i was getting errors last time. could still be errors further on. I have never actually finished the test cause I had a load of errors first time so I couldnt care if i had any more.

I will run a full test now. :)

EDIT 2: FYI: forgot to mention the ram seems to run at 1600MHz when its 1866. I did previously bump it up but it failed to boot, perhaps because of these crashes

Have a go with the ram at 1333mhz or near as and run memtest.

But I would RMA your current ram and show if possible your findings to the place of purchase.

Considering i bought it from overclockers, would you suggest: ring them up tell them the details and ask for a swap. Would this cost me anything i.e. shipping or postage.

Also, does RMA mean i would get back the same as I already have?

First time around I installed all drivers on the motherboard disk including chipset.
ATM all that is installed is Ethernet driver.
Either way it still crashed

Could someone enlighten me on RMA. I know its a replacement, but thats about it.

With overclockers: how long would it take to get my sticks replaced?
will it be free(no cost for postage etc)?
with the replaced product would i be looking for it running at its ideal rates (1800MHz @ 1.5v (may have to manually alter this as my mobo doesnt seem to be giving accurate voltages for RAM(1.472v when set at 1.510v)) 10-10-10-32) with no errors in memtest?
Would it be worth getting RMA or could I have the voltages at 1.65/1.7v or am i reducing the lifetime?

Thanks for everything, would never have found my problem otherwise :)

EDIT: finished a full memtest. 6 errors. 2 on one stick, 4 on the other all on test 5

Just rebootet, pc locked up while action centre bubble was up. I didnt touch anything. considering only 6 errors im surprised it locked up so quickly

If you post a note in the customer section and explain you should get the postage costs returned, I admit I have not bothered in the past.

Hopefully when you receive the replacement set you should be able to run at at the settings printed on the memory stick, you might need to up the voltage a notch but nothing to worry about.

Thanks, I have posted in there. Ill see the outcome.

Say i want to run this RAM at 1866MHz at 10-10-10-32. should I be able to do this by default as this is what the sticks say on them

Given that my actual voltage at the RAM is 1.5v in PC Status part of the bios

Usually the ram is defaulted to a lower speed and you will need to manually setup the speed, voltage and timings in the BIOS.

(Assuming your ram is ok :p)

Yeah, it is rather cheap ram but that should make any difference....

and what would be the recommended voltage to up the ram too??

also would you recommend getting the same RAM or maybe get something a little more expensive

Geil are usually reasonable ram, but you can get faulty sticks.

I am not sure on the max voltage limit for AMD setup, 1.65v~

Thanks, little bit annoyed as its my first build O.o but its a learning experience, now I know how to troubleshoot a PC i should be better at it next time (hopes there is no next time)

Also, thanks for all your help :)
