Get the 10850k retail version it cost £10 more and has a 3 year warranty, oem has only one year.

Have listed this 2070 as suggested by 'orbitwalsh' (thanks again), I noted there are ones at nearer £450. IF there is a minimal benefit I can be easily swayed.
Someone mentioned the MSI venutions 2070s is on offer £450

Very good point ref cooling ! - missed that from my post and can't find model I was looking at. Can you offer any suggestions for this ?

I have already explained the advantages of the Gigabyte 2070s over the msi in post 4.

The arctic e34 sport is a good option

Sorry - missed post 4. Thanks. In terms of cooling RGB is not of interest for me, just want to make sure all is adequately cooked. Machine wont be that exposed so want to ensure cooling is not an issued. No budget in mind as such - will spend what is necessary.

Just a thought (thinking budget as have to get a cooler and monitor), would I see much lower performance if I looked at either a i7-10700k (£374) or i5-10600k (£248.99). I note the i5 is a bit of a jump from 10 to 6 cores.

For reference overclocking is not high on my agenda.

Indeed. Up to you bare in mind those prices WILL increase due to supply and demand. If pound gets weak (doesn't matter if dollar does as we still always pay for it ) or Covid 19 ...
Once first Pre-orders are met, resellers like OCUK can increase the price and BOOM ! 980ti and 1080ti dropped in price when resellers knew they could get stock in that would out strip their Pre-orders etc

Happily swap my Aorus 2080 for Aorus 3070 though !
 
good way too measure CPU uplift is getting your core components now. running FS before CPU upgrade and after with your 1660... specially at 1080p since CPU bound even more so.

Then when you come iinto slapping a 3070?? should see BIG uplifts !

That’s a really good point. Lots of choices in 24 hours. EBay now full of 2080TI’s at £550+. Might see some 3070 reviews - and see what the true comparison is. Nice position to be in - assuming I have the patience to wait !

Just becareful with warranty as it's still £500 odd and could fail at any point . 2080ti would land you the VRam needed but lacking the extra power. But if gaming at 1440p you should be good !
 
A very good point. I will see what happens to prices on current new GPU’s and see when stock of the 3070 arrives. I get there will be significant stock and price fluctuations.

Again... Push 3080... Even if you haven't ordered and go 8 core intel 10700k over hard to resist 10 core intel 10850k .

Or, a B550 (£160) coupled with a 3600 (~£170) now and then sell on the CPU and upgrade to superior Zen 3 (8c/16t minimum) on release, when he's got more money in his pocket again?

As DX12 FS20 is the goal - could make the 3080 perhaps more attainable and eventually lead to better CPU, with less heat, when more flush. (But, will have to take a ~£40 hit selling CPU but this is offset by the cheaper B550...).

*Or has Ryzen/Zen3 been ruled out?

been reading about Nvidia and MS answer to Sonys rapid IO speeds. DX12_2 + RTX storage = more quotes for B550 boards !

Sounds tempting, trying to how much cash I can raise selling my child before committing! 3*** has brought much more to think about.

I could even initially try this route, and give my 1660 SUPER a go for a few months and then change both CPU's and GPU's when there is stock and sensible pricing on both new products (zen 3 / 3***).

If I go down this route have you suggested what B550 would you suggest ?
