New build from OCUK - not happy

Thankyou for all your advice.

I apologise if it sounds like i'm being a moody arse. But i have just noticed ANOTHER issue.

The fans on the H80i were mounted FACING eachother So it was essentially a Push Push configuration.

Just swapped them around, and i'm now getting 65c after 3 minutes in OCCT (down from 85c)

Just wow.

EDIT: After 5 minutes its now max 53 - 59c, which is awesome.

Hi.
Sorry to hear you're having problems.

My advice would be to stop tinkering and let the technical team advise you further on Monday.

The H80i wasn't recalled as mentioned above. That was their newer cooler and isn't related.

The reason that we dont install cooler fans and pumps into the cooler is because by attaching them to the board, they are controlled at BIOS level. If we do it via software, you lose the settings should you need to reinstall windows etc. It just ensures a constant and removes variables.

As for the temperature, its probably about right. The AIO liquid coolers do an ok job but really, they are average at best and dealing with the high thermal output of an OCd i7 CPU running a programming designed to load all threads and memory, its not going to be running cool.

Someone will get you an update on Monday and answer the rest of your questions, hope I've answered some of them anyway.

Rich.

Yes you have been extremely helpful,

Re the reasons for the fans, that does make sense. Although i was unable to control the speed from the BIOS for some reason.

Again, i'm sorry if i have appeared a little disgruntled. I guess i just wanted it to be spot on perfect.

As a result i now have a much better understanding o the workings of a PC, call it a crash.

All of my issues are now solved, apart from the missing fan.

But temperatures are now amazing anyway.

Its ok, if you aren't satisfied then it is ultimately up to us to help and make sure you are pleased with your new system. I can't do much to advise on a Sunday and systems aren't my speciality but I'm happy to help if I can.

I will speak to the systems management team tomorrow and ensure you're looked after anyway :)

While avoidable when building, mistakes can happen and this was probably the cause of the high temps, two fans blowing air between each other. Looks like you're getting much better temps now you've sorted it :)

I bet if you went into the BIOS you'd find a fan curve that has been set up by OCUK as mentioned. The loss of software fan curves would be annoying and I hadn't thought of that :) Might need to record them somehow so I can go back to them if I re-install :)

OCUK have great service so you'll always end up happy if you have anyissues :D

On the re-called AIO cooler, wasn't it the H110I and only a re-call was issued because coolant leaked in sub-zero temps while in transit?

To be honest id stop altering things yourself send it back and get it sorted as you paid for them to build it. Im pretty sure they will pay the return postage for you.

You would go through the hassle of sending it back over a few minor things that can be sorted out in 5 mins tops?

Things get blown out of proportion when it comes to custom computers I have noticed.

Issues are sorted now.

Temperature is stable, enough headroom for an overclock if i felt like it (i dont)

I've learned a lot this weekend, on the bright side it's been extremely useful, and i no longer fear building a pc.

Great it’s all working. Enjoy the new Rig.

Cant wait to get my one later in the year as it’s a big jump for me going from 3400AMD Athlon 1.5GB Ram and 256Mb 680GT card and windows XP. Build Nov 2004. But with OC I expect it to be well put together and I like the basic two year guarantee.

Personally no because i wouldn't buy a pre built system but if i did yes i would because you pay the extra for it being pre built that's just me. And the reason you buy pre built is so you dont have issues someone else has them for you haha.

Glad its all working now op

They have contacted me this morning and offered me monetary compensation, and a Digital Download of Far Cry 4.

Can't say any fairer than that.

As i said to him, a pro who knows what he's doing would have sorted these issues in half an hour. A noob like me who was a little intimidated taking a machine apart will take longer. But everyone has a start point!

I've learnt an awful lot this weekend though, so i'm thankful for that.

Thanks

Really? I can understand there being a mistake at build but are these systems checked with a QA process? If so, both the person that has built this system as well as the person that QA'd it should be kicked up the butt!

The fan direction arrows aren't obvious (sometimes hidden) and without either checking them or knowing the orientation then it could happen.

If the PCs were put through a testing process then I guess it should have been spotted, however it depends on what they check etc.

Least it's fixed now!

Glad to hear OCUK sorted you out. Always good to hear about good customer support, having had bad experiences in the past. Not from OCUK I might add.
