Now, I was also looking at the Asus Rampage bundle....would that be a better option?

Or would I get a better setup hand picking the components so that I can get better ram and a different mobo?

More questions about additional components once these are decided :o

I have to ask whats your Pc for.. eg gaming, benchmarking etc etc

Also re cases the haf 922 £94 i think and the haf 932 £129

I'ld go HAF 922 The HAF 932 is 2 inches taller and half an inch wider comapred to the HAF 922 and i cant see why it should be £35 more than the 922 which is still ****** huge and it receives very good reviews re space and cooling.

Afterall HAF stands for High Air Flow ;)!

Thanks for that, I'll give it some thought.

What about the Gigabyte bundle? Is the Asus Rampage bundle better, or should I hand pick something else?

I will be using the system mainly for gaming.

Been looking at this combo insted of the Gigabyte:

MB-319-AS_60.jpg
Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £247.99
(£215.64) £247.99
(£215.64)
CP-280-IN_60.jpg
Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail + Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game £208.99
(£181.73) £208.99
(£181.73)
MY-018-PA_60.jpg
Patriot Viper II 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000 (2000MHz) Low Latency Tri-Channel (PV236G2000LLKB) £171.99
(£149.56) £171.99
(£149.56)
WC-001-CS_60.jpg
Corsair H50 High-Performance CPU Watercooler (Socket LGA775/1366) £54.99
(£47.82) £54.99
(£47.82) Sub Total : £594.75

Would that be worth the extra £100+vat? Will there be a noticable difference?

In my opinion your paying for looks with the rampage and at a hefty price. Theres cheaper boards out there that clock just as well if not better.
Also i think that rams overly pricey for what it is 1600mhz will do you just as well with some of the Patriot

Ok, what board and ram should I be looking at please?

This new system is going to last me a while, so I want it to be as good as I can.

My skt939 and AGP card system is now very old :o

If the rigs for gaming dont overlook the new i7 860 1156skt

Plus 1156 will have a more accomodating upgrade path. The 1136 upgrade will be VERY pricey into the 300+ mark easily whereass the 1156 will be cheaper and offers same performance as the lower i7 1366 range

A i7 1156 spec

Ive seen a thread of the 860 hitting 4-4.5ghz stable on the gd80
Also if your super lazy theres the autoclock feature on this setup which will push the 860 to around 3.3-3.5ghz stable with 1 press of a button
Its cheaper than your intial build cost
The f3 is a very fast dual platter drive

NOTE: the corsair h50 doesnt come with the 1156 bracket yet so i would hold out buying this and use the stock cooler until the new bracket is released shortly!

Many thanks for the advice.

A couple of people have recommended this mobo to me, saying it is better than the UD5 for overclocking. Is it true? I don't mind a few quid extra if it performs better?

A review states that this board has a prefitted south bridge water block. Does that mean I would need water cooling if I went with this board?

It also stated that the heatsink covers the soundcard slot, is this correct?
